Because he is slightly better than Hampson and Sentena who have to go asap

Easily in our current best two defenders. Great pair of hands.

More importantly, the very few times that Thornton has been sent forward b/c we have completely run out of options, he has kicked goals. Even this year.

It should have happened today, b/c there were NO options there.

Setanta was 5000 different types of useless. Pick on him instead if you must.

Wasn't as bad today as the following,

Scotland, Joseph, Carrazzo, Jamison, Simpson, Irish, Hampson, Robinson, Houlihan, Betts, Walker.

Armfield was only just a pass by the way, so he is ahead of half the side right there, maybe more if I have missed someone!!!

Agree, on the fact that if we are in a position to challenge for a flag in 2-3 years, he wont be there.
I'd prefer to see Anderson/Austin playing instead

As mentioned he is playing "slightly" better than Setanta and a few others at the moment.... but to add some amusement to the thread..

1. The more games he plays could be the difference between us getting a 2nd or 3rd round pick for him when he becomes a GC17 or GWS player.
2. We need to have at least once a game that "Thornton moment" where he chucks a mental at a team-mate or costs us a turnover.
3. Make him continuosly suffer that if he had his wish he could've been a premiership player at Hawthorn.. but now must amuse himself playing with our abysmal excuse for a team.

He has kicked 4 goals this year and 8 in his career??????

He has no pace and no strength - how would he compete against the Bulldogs defenders who have both in spades

He should have been put back - at least has a go when playing in the back half

I think we were all hoping that playing as a 3rd tall after years of playing as the number 1 defender he would win lots of football.

He just doesn't seem to win enough ball or create enough run for a 3rd tall IMO.

Why are most of his possessions uncontested.

Why are most of his disposals of no value.

Why does he just kick it sideways or 15 metres forward

Why can't he come off his man and provide a chop out every now and then

Why is it that when he does get the ball our movement dries up

Why are opposition coaches happy to see him get the ball?

Why does he get frustrated every time he loses a contest.

Why does it seem that even his uncontested marks appear to be contested

All of that happened tonight
