Bret Thornton seems to be giving away at least 3 free kicks a game resulting in set shots on goal directly from hands in the back/over the shoulder/chopping the arms.

As much as we may not like these rules, the fact is he is unable to adapt to them, most probably because of the height he gives away when playing in a key post.

For me Thornton has been a huuuuuge dissapointment this season. Yes his stats look good but this is only because of the cheap possessions he gathers in the back pockets when marking from the kick-in and the times when the players decide to play keepings off.

Given the support of Waite, Jamison and Bower/Austin at different stages he was supposed to be relieved of a key position post and be allowed to play his own natural, creative game yet he really seems to have gone backwards.

If we are going to lure a CHB/CHF to the club then maybe Bret is someone we should look to throw up as trade bait (although I don't know what his worth will be to most other clubs). Yet he is definately expendable and maybe the club should just bite the bullet with him...

So which club would be interested in him?

Hawks were up and about last 2 seasons to get him and at times i though that he wanted to leave as well. if i remember correctly we wanted boyle and a 1st round draft pick for him but hawks wouldn't budge and understandablly so. if we had that pick we could of picked up a player called cyril rioli.

lol I dont think they would want him now we have done our dash with him

Look, the club might just look to offload him at years end. We have a plethora of tall defenders, and we may well look to put him up on the trade table at years end.

If you look at the defenders we have at our disposal, they are:

Michael Jamison
Jarrad Waite
Paul Bower
Setanta O'Hailpin
Mark Austin

We can even throw Andrew Walker down there as well, so we do have options. It certainly wouldn't surprise me if the club put him up on the trade table in a couple of months.

Thornton and Fisher are the same type of player.

They look good from far, but are far from good!

I remember a few years back some of the geniuses on this board were saying Thornton could be an All-Australian!!! ROTFLMFAO!

Thornton is shit and i have thought that for many seasons
