Article about Kirk and his feeling on Barry. At the very bottom of the article is something interesting. We all know how much Kirky loves the club but he says if he is to go for an assistant coach spot in the AFL next year, he will not seek one at Sydney.

It's disappointing that we won't get to have him at our club but I don't think it's overly negative. A changing list and coaching panel is and will be a good thing for this club.

Tragic. Oh well. Think he will go on to be a really successful coach, such a shame it doesn't appear it will be with us. The club that gave him a go in footy.

Its sometimes better to be a assistant coach at a club that the player in question didn't play for as it gives them a different perspective to what they have always known.

Look at Rob Harvey, he started off at Carlton, but now he's back at St Kilda. Kirk just needs a fresh club to give him a challenge, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him back at the Swans halfway through 2012 when we give Horse the flick.

I'd rather him go learn the trade some where else and come back with a different view. Would be more beneficial to him to see what other clubs do differently to the swans, what works better/worse and come back with a fresh outlook.

Yes. Somewhere like the Pies, or even GWS under Sheedy and Choco. Couldn't do much better than begin your apprenticeship under them.
The other thing to take from his comment is he is not looking for another jobs for the boys placement. All this reinforces his most outstanding qualities.

Smart move to look elsewhere, its much better for his development if he goes to another club

I'd personally like to see Kirk spend a few years at a club like Hawthorn.

Actually a smart move. Was a bit perplexed Buckley didn't go elsewhere as his stint as an assistant coach; the more you see outside of the environment you've always known the better off you'll be.

The guy bled red and white so I don't see how you could be affronted at that. Would be good to have him down at the Pies next year and he'd probably learn a bit from us too :)

That makes perfect sense and sets up the possibility for a return to the swans as head coach in the future. Considering horse was also part of roos' tenure, kirk staying at Sydney as an assistant would have offered him very little in terms of development.

I'd like to see him at collingwood, hawthorn or even west coast. Breadth of knowledge is important and exposure to different systems is crucial.
