Hello Freo fans,
hoping someone can shed some light on the yo-yo selection of Brett Peake this year, and to a lesser degree Ryan Crowley. I think he makes a massive difference to the Freo midfield through his pace and ball-carrying and want to know why he's struggling to get a game. Same for Crowley, when he's not being played as a tagger, he gives the Dockers run.

We are playing at the MCG. Both still have a bit to do before they recapture their end of 2005 form.

They are at the front of a long queue of players in good form.

I'd be more worried about Cuddly John picking Donut Sampi yet again if I were you.

Didn't recognise you there Ripper. Has 211 been substituted for 6-8 weeks, or has your buddy permanently replaced him?

Peake's omission is a mystery to most supporters.
Brilliant in the pre-season when Freo showed good form, then out for the first game and bit parts since.
He seems to have the ability and his pace would be handy at the moment.
I can only think he knocked over the coach's beer.

I cant work out why he cant keep his side.
I mean players as we all know should be left in one position and given time to develop, take one look at how the patience with Johnson has paid off.

The "kid" should just be left in the side and told everytime he gets the ball to run. Many times during the derby he could have just let fly and didnt.
If McPharlin is told to fly
Peak should be told to RUN

i disagree with you all in the sense "Peake" needs to improve his kicking (disposal) skills if he is to be a permanent fixture in our team.

He is slow in decision making and his kicking is suspect.

Peake is a unusual case.
Connolly has stated that sustained good form in the Wafl will be rewarded with a place in the team. The problem with Peake is that except for the odd standout game here and there, he seems to have found it hard to really dominate at Wafl level. I remember how amazed I was to see him have a real impact with the Dockers last year when I had never seen him play that well at East Freo.

Very confusing. Do Connolly and Co back him in at AFL level where he seems more comfortable, or stick him back at Easts (where he struggles) and leave him there until he performs consistently? He seems to have the opposite problem to Gilmore formwise.

Any thoughts?

Easy to look good in a good team.

Magic is another that looks a lot better at AFL level.

I suppose the cream always rises to the top.

Some lift and drop with the standard of competition they are in,not all afl players go back to the next level and dominate. his pre season form did look good and was surprised he was out.Maybe it is his defensive part of his game is lacking or maybe his stamina.

You could apply the rationale to Scholfield, and where would you be. Dessie went back to Subi last year and racked up 40 possessions in 3/4 of football. Medhurst went back and kicked 5 goals and terrorised Drum. And didn't Macca rack up something like 50 possessions after being dropped once. Truly good AFL players do go back and dominate WAFL.

But you are right. He was the big tip pre-season. He has recorded a 15.6 beep test so it can't be his stamina. I think it's more he has only one trick in his bag. Its a very good trick and he does it well. But he needs to lift his ability to win contested ball whether on the ground or in the air. That's partly related to size, and partly related to experience.

I could see him and Cookie playing alternate matches all season -- Peake at home and Cookie away.

He dominated in pre season training, but his performances in our pre season games were ordinary.

Reckon he'll get a run next week. Headland looks to be missing a few weeks (:thumbsd: ); Crowley definitely will; Walker should get dropped; Cookie too probably + the Sharks have the bye....

I wouldnt judge him on his wafl form, east freo have been regularly getting pumped by over 10 goals for about 2 years now, including this season. I saw him get 40 possessions in a game last season when they got thrashed, not a bad effort but pretty hard to do every week if your team is playing so badly. By comparison i think gilmore has the luxury of playing in the dominant team in the comp. Much easier for him to shine

well summarised gilmore dominates in WAFL but at AFL level just aint good enough with decision making he may be as :D:D:D:D in WAFL just that you dont notice mistakes if you are in a team of great oklayers and continously winning. but once u start loosing and look at why then you will notice the mistakes.

Maybe attitude is the issue. I watched a Q&A with him, and seemed to have a very big ego
