What are peoples thoughts of resting brian lake until the freo game. The extra couple of weeks rest could be very valuable at the buisness end of the year.with two easier games coming up againts brissy and gold coast then the bye do we really need to risk him i think we should give him the extra time to get over his injuries.

Maybe the players and coaches took this attitude coming into last weeks game...,fact is if we dish up what we did on sunday and brisbane come to play we will get rolled by them as well, you only have to be 5-10% off and any team can do you. If he is fit he plays as he needs match practise otherwise come Collingwood in round 6 if he is playing his 1st of 2nd game we will cop another 10 goal flogging.

He will need AFL-level match practice before Freo so he should play at least one of the next two games.

That means maybe this week but definitely next week.

It was frightening just how lost the defense looked without him on Sunday.

Think he will be bought back and give Gilbee another week

I don't think the defense looked lost at all....Lake would have made little difference with so much ball and time in the Essendon forward half. Unless you are thinking of Lake as midfielder....now there is a group that looked lost!

For what it's worth re this thread.....Lake has recovered from his injuries and so does not need any more time to get over them. He's been in training now for a while and has played an intra club....his issue is can he run out a game yet?

If not....then he needs time at Willi....but if he can then he's better finding touch at AFL level than 7pm at Werribee on Saturday night.

I would bring him in and play more a Hargrave roll. So keep Markovic to play on most dangerous forward. Lake is great and reading and setting up play. This will hopefully help him get to full fitness quicker then playing at Willie.

No. Must play this week.
I have watched him train and he is a bit under done, but ready. Play him forward (or sub) for a few weeks to get fitness and touch back for round 6 to play on Dawes/Cloke.

Just having him on the ground will give the rest of our defence a boost and the young guys will walk taller if he is there. He doesn't necessarily have to take their best forward in his first week back but his knowledge of the bulldogs structure and ability to marshall the defence will be invaluable.

Gilbee and Lake are both meant to be back in for the Brissy game.
and seeing as he probably could have played last week, you'd think he'd be right. and even though it's an 'easier' game, we need to get guys back on the park and settle the team for the season.
