Coincidentally I am reading John Steinbeck's letters. Two of the BB's (not the Wilsons) which I met while working one summer in Cape Cod ( see thread on first jobs...this is all starting to gestalt) told me Steinbeck (travels with Charlie etc) inspired them to write that Big Sur segment.

I think I know exactly which two Beach Boys you're talking about. :D lol

Definitely get Holland on CD.........the newly-released one has the 'Mount Vernon and Fairway - A Fairy Tale' as a bonus. Ah, a classic piece. :D lol

Yes and it WAS 'she's goin bald'.........for some reason it just slipped my mind. :D

YOu know in the vote queue I was thinking about how Lennon & Brian Wilson used to keep an eye on each other from afar. I's funny that both of them got seriously wierd in the seventies, getting paranoid & spending the majority of their time "in their room"s.

lol Brian's Dad did it too. For much of the late 60s

The Beach Boys have definitley been one of the greatest bands in the history of music. Their lyrics are pure poetry only surpassed (arguably) by the works of Shakespeare. Take the pure genius and profoundness of "Kokomo":

Aruba, Jamaica ooo I wanna take you
To Bermuda, Bahama come on pretty mama
Key Largo, Montego baby why don't we go..

Of course the Beach Boys were seen to be past their best once the 60's ended. The Beach Boys then dragged themselves into the 1990's and became relevant in the hearts and minds of young people, when they became the first band to mention the words 'greenhouse effect' in a song. I present the pure brilliance of "Still Cruisin'":

You've got a greenhouse effect on me
I know a secret spot
Paradise by the sea
We'll find a place to park
That's kinda cool after dark

They will never be topped.
:D :D :D :D

LOL good one.

You forgot their effort in the 70s.......a classic little number by the name of "It's OK".......starts something like this:

Fun is in, it's no sin to shed your load, hit the road, on the run again
Summer skies in our eyes and a warmer sun, it's one for all, all for one, all for all-out fun

Classic stuff. It was a sign of things to come in the late 80s. :D
