Yeah same, although as Murray said, no match is meaningless to a big punter, but the type of match that would slip under the radar to a degree in as far as intense media focus is concerned would be a juicy target, say a 12th vs 14th match late in the season for instance.

I was thinking, intentionally causing floodlight failure (like what happened a few times in Britain) to fix outcomes, but then like when Waverley had the blackout that year, they'd just start from where they left off a few days later I guess.

Another could be the intentional allowing of an extra man on the field during a match, and a resulting headcount by umpires (if it's spotted) which would see a team's scored wiped and they'd have to start on 0.0.0 from the time of the infraction.
You couldn't rule it out from happening I suppose.

He was the 8th player named as taking a bribe but he denied it.
The other 7 may have used his name to increase the amount they received.
He was offerred $20,000 the night before the game, but apparently he refused to accept it.

Jackson was as guilty as the rest of them. You're thinking of Buck Weaver.

Remember the little boy saying Tell us it ain't so Joe? Jackson just dropped his head and kept walking, an innocent man wouldnt have done that.

I think it would be imossible to fix an AFL game, too many people would be in the know and that amount of people never keep their mouth shut.

I dont think you could bribe enough players in a GF to do it. In fact I dont think you'd get any at all. Same with a coach.

Only way Id see a bribe happening is if it is a totally meaningless match.

But for big punters no match is meaningless.
Good topic Murray

I like DM think a GF would be untouchable. You may get 1 or 2 but you wouldnt get the 5-6 needed to make it look convincing. If 1-2 have a bad day the coach takes them off, if 5-6 have a bad day the coach can only remove so many.

The other issue is in who you target to fail, most players reach the top due to pride in performace ie Buckley and I dont think Buckley would play poorly for any other reason than he cant get the best out of himself. Its no good bribing player 13-18 .

It might explain some of those shots Richo has missed from 10m out!
Or some of those "unlose-able" leads the Tiges have given away. :(
