Friday, November 18

Barely anyone went to the first final on a Saturday, a Friday nights not going to make any difference
Except for the fans that actually want to go to the game and support a team that made a PF

Is anyone stopping you going to the game?

I don’t see supporters complaining about a Thursday or Friday night game and getting to the Gabba.

Plenty of options available to make the game if 2500 people want to turn up

Back on track for the thread
Some information for anyone who has not been to the Springfield area, which was me until Wednesday
Below image taken from the architects site, so the image has been superimposed onto the land
The completed building looks the same but some roads around the area are still under major works

See my post 5669 on page 227 to give you an idea where the Park & Ride is located in relation to rail & bus interchange and Brighton Homes Arena
The Park & Ride was opened in May 2022 at a cost of $44.5 million

Below article link for those interested.
Also a Facebook link to a short 47 second video after it opened showing the outside and inside.

Huh? No you're right, they don't because we're a Brisbane team. Amazing that people don't have an issue going to the home ground of the Brisbane lions to watch the .......... Brisbane lions. Incredibly insightful and relevant point. Honestly you're just taking the piss now.

We get it you don't like women's football. Good for you. Don't see why those who choose to support it need to sit and listening to you spew your negative diatribe in a decidedly uninventive fashion.

Amazing that we get 1000’s of people to AFL games from distances equivalent to the trip to Metricon.

Strange that all these so called fans of the AFLW team don’t have that same passion. Amazing insight you’ve go there and so relevant.

I get it you like AFLW and find facts and reason difficult to accept.

Would be curious if you’ve got such passionate posts in the mens teams pages when someone dares to go not be a happy clapper.

If they scheduled a Lions men's home prelim final at Metricon at 6:30 on a Friday the fans would riot. To interpret disappointment at the AFLW scheduling as a relative lack of passion is utterly in bad faith and speaks to a more personal agenda.

There's a distinct difference between having an alternative view and continually bashing something over and over. And yes when people do the same to any topic i will always call it out

We get it you hate women's sport and find it difficult to accept that others may not.

Might be best to go and find a thread on div 3 mens football and go bash them for how their football isn't AFL standard. Would be about as valuable a contribution as on here

Cool assumption there buddy.

I don’t hate womens sport, I hate terrible sport’s especially ones that demand to be professional athletes when clearly they don’t deserve that label.

At least at div 3 level they have basic skills down pat.

Your contribution here has been first class and typical of AFLW supporters that ignore reality.

I look forward to your game day contribution on Friday 👍

Fans would still show up despite the so called riot.

2400 for a Saturday final, 1230 vs last years grand final opposition tells me AFLW fans talk a good game but don’t back it up with action.

Crowds are averaging 2500 a game, less than half what it was 2-3 years ago.

Could it be that once the feel good factor disappeared that no one wants to watch substandard football

Your unrelenting griping against the AFLW is as tedious here as it was in the main AFLW board that you got booted off. Time to pull your head in.

How many different so called ‘Home Grounds’ have the Lions girls played at since the inception of the game.
It would have to be pushing 10?
Once they get a pure Home Ground next year once settled in Springfield the crowds will return to a decent level.
Mind you I think that 3.5-4K is a pretty decent level out at Springfield for regular season games with about double that for Finals out there.

Ah, the Springfield donut

Serious question

How do they retrieve the balls that get kicked out of bounds? Low fence off a rock wall???

Will make training interesting.
Can't just jump over and get it.

Fair question
I assume nets go up both ends but would not stop every ball
Also nets are annoying for fans if erected during a game.

Sarcastic option 2, get the funding to build a grandstand that should fix the issue

We've been very compromised in the scheduling of our activities due to our lack of facilities. I think players will get a very big uplift just from having to make less compromises in the schedule, we'll have complete control over when we train etc. should make it much more workeable for them

Can't wait to have a look at the new facility on open day

One thing they could have got better in my opinion is the large Lion at the building entrance seen above
It is hard to see from a lot of angles during the daytime, and appearance wise underwhelming
It is so big it should immediately grab your attention at ground level, but did not for me
Also gold on maroon just does not work in my opinion

I have only seen it in the daytime. Maybe it looks better at night time, if it's backlit, or lit up from the front.

Lions den in frame for AFLW decider
LAUREN WOOD
16 November 2022
Courier Mail

BRISBANE’S Springfield base could be back in the frame to host the AFLW grand final.

The Courier-Mail understands an assessment of the turf at Brighton Homes Arena - which opened last month - was undertaken by the league in recent days.

Should the Lions defeat Adelaide at Metricon Stadium on Friday night, they would earn hosting rights amid a ground crunch that had prompted suggestions for the game to be moved to Melbourne.

The league is set to make a final call on the venues in play to host the decider on Wednesday.

It is believed that Springfield, Ikon Park (Melbourne) and Unley Oval (Adelaide) are among potential options, with the venue to be decided by the highest-ranked qualifying team. Marvel Stadium is also available.

The grand final is scheduled for the weekend of November 26-28. Brisbane has maintained an “anywhere, anytime” mentality amid the grand final venue speculation.

Should the Lions salute against Adelaide on Friday night, preparations will need to get underway almost immediately with vital infrastructure to be installed at the $80 million mega-base.

Ikon Park has been earmarked as one potential ground to host should Melbourne earn the right, but only if Adelaide defeats Brisbane and the Demons prevail over North Melbourne.

Unley Oval will stage the decider if the Crows defeat Brisbane and the Kangaroos win over Melbourne. Should Brisbane host the game at Springfield, it would prompt a flurry of final preparations at the facility including the installation of a digital scoreboard and interchange benches. The Gabba and Metricon Stadium are unavailable due to cricket and concert commitments.
