Brock McLean Donates $10,000

I read this in the Herald Sun, that truly shows how much the guy loves the MFC...yeah he definately deserves to be captain...great player and great leader.

Obviously some people were going to call for him to be made captain, i'm surprised that no one has asked for a presso today to announce it immediately.

But i think he's obviously started to show maturity as he was accepted back into the leadership group earlier in the year. He was leading by example on field before he got injured, i'd have money on him leading the Bluey up to that point & he'll still probably finish top 5. He came back on against brisbane injured, just like a captain needs to do, team first.

I know you said consistent maturity, but donating this money, this sort of self-sacrificing effort along with the above reeks of captain.

If he keeps his nose clean over summer i see know reason to deny him the leadership of the club he is quite obviously willing to bleed for

Top stuff Brock

Fair points, I just don't want us to jump the gun & look stupid if he makes another mistake.

I agree, keep clean over summer & have a serious look at it just before the start of the season.

But I would also like to see him & Jones spend a year as vice captains & see who lifts to another level as a leader & player, then give it to that one.

I like Jones quite manner, a lot like Neitz (except the crown casino thing).

Yeah well as i said, give him the off season to lose it, if he says out of trouble then it should be his. I think McLean has already lifted to that level this year, when he was playing he was clearly our best player. Jones has shown glimpses but needs consistancy, but he is younger.

Jones is too quiet. While Neita is a bit reserved off-field, he was loud and strong on field. Watch Jonesy, he might lead by example sometimes with actions, but he's not a big talker. I know not all captains are, but i think a leader who can pump up his troops brings a bit more. Jones just doesn't dominate enough to deserve the mantle without the on-field talk. On the other hand, no player of ours talks more then Brock.

It takes confidence to vocally encourage your teammates & that goes hand in hand with being captain

McLean seems to always encourage even when were struggling, which is the main reason why i prefer him over Green. I know Green has improved this year, but i know we've all seen Greeny drop his head. To me, the improvement's come too late at 27. If Green had been doing that last year as well while we struggled, he would've taken the captaincy when Neitz got hurt, then just been given it for next year. To me, he's missed his window.

I don't think Jones is a realistic option this year or next, he'd only be considered if Green took it for 2-4 years.

A big reason i like McLean for the job is that he could lead the club for +10 years, it might be a bit of sporting romanticism but i don't mind that in this circumstance.

Good on him, extremeley generous move.

To play devils advocate, would any teammates be bitter that after they all made a private donation to the club, Brock goes out and makes a public one to look like the only player who cares?

However, Brock probably didn't think it would get so much press

Way of the mark mate, Brock did not even admit to it until asked, if you read the whole article about it he simply kept standing when Stynes was asking how many people donated what.

Well technically the crutches kept him standing, he probably wanted to sit down but couldn't so he got stuck donating 10k.

:D

On ya Brocky.
