Had to register my car today, first time I had to register it.

Got the greenslip, $437.80 OUCH!

Then had to transfer the rego and I was informed that I would incur a late fee, $45 for the transfer and another $80 for the fee!
Then there was the rego, another $110!
That all adds up to $772.80

Then of course I have third party insurance.
About another $440 for that ...

So all up around $1212.80 to register my car.

Welcome to the real world Luke!!!! :(

Get this

I have a couple of debts which I have been gradually being paying off

Thought that I would go get my tax done, and with my return pay off some of them

Ends up being that I owe the tax department $1096.

Great hey, I had a breakdown in the tax agents office yesterday!

Thats disgraceful. I havent done my tax for last year and i am in no hurry to either.

Get this - my Mastercard was overlimit, and i had forgotten to pay it, so they just TOOK, $250 out of my Classic account last week without ANY notification at all!!! Without permission or anything, they just took it, and they are ALLOWED TO!!!!!

I got my $1900 tax back, drove to Sydney, spent some time seeing a favourite band and drinking with them got all my stuff signed, and basically had a ball.

Ain't life a bitch. :D

Be thankful you have work, albeit temporary. Yeah I know, doesn't mean it's less stress but you know what I mean! :D

My money isn't going so great at the moment. I have $200 I promised to pay my parents for my deb dress (lucky they paid for the rest of it!), plus the $80 shoes, and $20 gloves. Twice my mum has paid for me to go to the football, that comes to about $15 for the bus fee on each occassion, and once she booked me the ticket, so that's another $20. Also $40 for two tops she bought me because my card didn't have sufficient funds, oh **** and $40 for another top she bought me because I conveniently gave it to her to hold when she was at the register and I wandered off...that's all I can think of for my mum at the moment. I owe my friend $20 because she bought me alcohol, my aunt $10 because she bought me alcohol too although I'd say she'll let that slip as I already gave her $10 of the $18 or whatever it was, another friend has bought me lunch on two occassions because I've either forgotten mine or not had enough money, so that's another $10. So, I'm $460 in debt, and that's not counting numerous train fares to Melbourne (at $30 each  ) which my mum is probably going to let slip. And then, I have three birthday presents to buy, probably at about $20 each. I also want to go to Essendon's first final, so that's however much more...and how am I supposed to pay all this? Well, I get $122 a fortnight youth allowance and $50 of that goes into a progress saver for uni, so I live on $70 a fortnight. Basically, I'm ****ed! :( I'm officially a charity case, so donations welcome :D

I HATE owing people things, which really sucks because in HECS I already owe the government about $7000, and I haven't made it to second year yet (I dropped out a couple of subjects without actually dropping out.) I was unemployed for two years, and racked up numerous ammounts of debt to the people who care about me. My parents, my friends. My friends were paying for me to go places because they wanted to, and I couldn't say no. All in all I think I'd owe a few thousand to all of them, but they all seem to have forgotten about it now that I'm working, and I can't remember who I owe what, which is just as well, because at the moment I'm only earning less than $50 a week. Not much to live on really. I'm trying to pay people back with little things like buying them drinks and presents and things. I do need another job, but its not easy at the moment, having very little experience behind me. I need to get me a car, so that I can get to uni next year, but that's not going to happen until I can make enough to start saving. I have some essential items of clothing on layby, and haven't yet paid for half of my schoolbooks, halfway through the semester. In fact I need to see a doctor, but I can't even afford that, being $15 a visit (I know I know, shouldn't complain, many people have it worse than that.) I currently have $0.34 in my bank account, and don't get paid until next week.

*grumbles* I really need a second job, any ideas?

On the plus side, I should get a bit of money in my tax return, if I ever work out how to fill out parts of it. Money organisation isn't my thing. Organisation full stop isn't my thing.

all my major debts are education related. I owe well over $10,000 in HECS, PELS (Post Education Loan Scheme), and loans from relatives. not to mention text books, printing paper, etc.. that I have to buy. hope I can recoup some of this real soon with a decent paying job!!

People who complain about being broke don't know how to save money.

* The Logic Cavalry Arrives *

Money that you are saving is money that you cannot spend.
Broke people have no money.
You cannot spend 'no money.'

Therefore

Money saved is the same as no money.

And thus

People who save money are broke.

Makes perfect sense to me. :D Thank goodness I can't save. ;)

Seriously, it's about living within your means. You always read about 'celebrities' going broke after having earned millions. I haven't spent millions yet myself.

Barring the sudden onset of a brilliant money-making scheme, I'll never be a millionaire. I do have a comfortable lifestyle. I pay the bills, buy groceries, BEER, clothing, entertainment, vacations etc without it being any hassle toward my income. I don't even balance my bank account. Most times I forget to grab my paycheck from work until the next one comes in.

If I want something cool and a little on the expesive side, I do an online inquiry into how much I have in the bank - and then go buy whatever it is I'm wanting. If there isn't quite enough, I wait for the next check.

It all works out because I make enough to support myself and have a good time. I could easily be broke if I kicked my lifestyle up a notch and started out spending myself. Can happen to anyone.

A lot of the 'broke' stories on this thread are from young students. I can sympathize with them. They aren't yet making enough cash to have fun with, let alone save. Peace,

Exactly the same for me.

I don't spend that much, because I don't need a lot to be comforatable. If I want something I buy it, but I make sure before hand that I can afford it. I always have heaps of cash to spare.

I do like to invest money, though, because I'd rather make my money work for me than work to get money.

Something about doing nothing and letting the dollars roll in that appeals to me. Strange eh?
