Veteran Leigh Brown hopes to add onto his career tally of 181 AFL games at his new club, Collingwood.

The 26 year old was selected by the club with its final pick in the AFL National Draft (73).

“I didn’t know if it (my name) was coming out at all, to be honest,” Brown told CTV in his first club interview.

“Yeah it was excitement, relief, very nervous leading up to it so very excited.”

Brown trained with Collingwood for a few weeks in the lead up to the draft.

“It was a little bit different because most of the guys were in Arizona so there were probably only 12 guys here so it probably gave me a little insight to the group. I got to know the facilities, where to go and all of those types of things.

“It gave me a nice little lead in and now I have met the whole group and its full steam ahead.”

Starting out at a new football club is nothing new for the defender, Collingwood is his third AFL home (Fremantle 2000-02 and North Melbourne 2003-07).

“I think in terms of the guys, all the guys are pretty much similar. Facilities is the big one, coming from the Kangaroos where they are going through that new phase of building a new facility now, but right here at the Lexus Centre we have got everything right under your nose.

“It’s really exciting. No excuses not to perform to your best because everything is here to achieve that.”

Brown has already penciled in his goals for the 2009 season stressing his desire to help Collingwood succeed next year.

“For preseason to stay fit and healthy. Love to get into the side for the first NAB Cup over in South Africa and take it from there.

“I want to play some senior footy at Collingwood and have a real impact here.”

I can't help but feel posting it before anyone else is more important to Dave than the actual content.
What does that Suppose to mean:mad:

And I'm hardly the first to comment on the 740 threads he's started.

Which demonstrates no insight and no originality, so why pay out for no good reason?

I'm glad for DTM to be posting these here so I don't have to use BigPond's rubbish video interface or the CFC's poorly executed template design - I can just get the facts quickly.

Back on-topic... Hard to know if Brown's confident or casual from this interview - he speaks well but the training video wasn't showing much. Has the guy ever had any 'standout' games to speak of?

Is meant to very good on the training track...
as for standout games ive read somwhere he booted 4 in a match some time ago...

i was pretty unhappy when we drafted him.. but a mick and co know what theyre doing (most of the time)... as much as i dont rate him, we must look at the facts... the guy is 26 and played 181 games... too me this suggests the guy has something to offer - what that may be i dont know... but , if he is bad as reported by many, (ive seen him play 4-5 times and would describe him as average) i cant understand how you would let him play all those games - surely the teams he played for had SOME other options or would have got rid of him much, much earlier...

I want to make an impact at my footy club.

Unfortunately my limited ability will probably curtail whatever I want. I suspect the same will be the case with Leigh.

nick maxwell , and ive read nick state he's not the most naturally talented footballer, would also fall into the "not the most talented" catergory.. And even with his lack of football ability has managed to carve out a nice career at CFC and is currently, in all probability, our next cap'n...

cork (my nickname for leigh brown) could be given a team specific role by mick and turn his career around.... at worst he could turn out to be a good vfl player or even a good trade player for GC17(they'll need all the experience they can get....
