THAT Carlton youngster Steven Browne was mentioned as possible compensation in the deal that brought Robbie Warnock to Visy Park was a credit to the defender's impact in his first season, but he admits the situation left him a little perplexed.

"I'm not too sure why my name was getting thrown about, I didn't think I could even leave inside the first two years of my contract anyway; it was all a bit random as far as I was concerned," Browne says.

"It was a compliment to be mentioned as part of that, but I didn't really take it on board; I knew I wasn't going anywhere. I'm happy at Carlton. It's where I want to be."

"The more games we play together the better we'll get; it's as simple as that," he says.
"We're a young side and a young defence so we just need to work together so we can get that level of familiarity with each others games as time goes by."

Kid just has class written all over him. Top notch:thumbsu:

Yes, would of been pissed to loose him.....
I think we all would've been . Certainly would have been a massive blunder from the recruiting dept to trade away someone that will add the muscle we have been yearning for since the other Brown (Fraser) retired . Yes I rate the boy very highly ! This year I believe he will really stand up well.

Certainly highly rated by yours truly, and to me, he appears to be the ideal replacement for Heath Scotland off half back, with his elite kicking skills, and defensive mind set coming off half back. Would have hated seeing him being traded to Fremantle.

I've said this before, but I think Browne could be better Whitehead who wasn't this good this early.

Or this physical.

Browne is very strong for a small.

His run down on Solomon was first class when we were trailing and saved us a vital goal.

But his snap was more important when we needed a goal before half time IIRC. :thumbsu:

It was great to see Browne spoil Richmond's Nathan Brown cleanly running back with the flight and hold his feet after colliding with the Tiger nicely.

Browne and Armfield are very brave players.

It's almost like we've drafted pure ball players in recent drafts who go when they have to and put their body on the line. ;)

As Browne himself mentioned players in their first 2 years after being drafted cant be traded, only delisted as the Bombers did with 1 kid 2 or 3 yrs back.

It is both typical yet unbelievable that Freo dont even the rules regarding player exchange.......how many years as part of the AFL will it take for them to get a grasp on things ?.

Keep your hat on guys....what else is he going to say. BTW he was a WCE supporter so it would have not necessarily been a comfortable thing for him coming to Freo. As a Freo supporter - if I had enough talent to be drafted (too bad I didn't and am far too old now) the last club I would want to play for is the WCE....bit like a carlton supporter playing for collingwood!!!

Too early to pidgeon hole Browne IMO.....an absolute hard nut that looks like he will develop a very strong body.

Could eventuate into an in and under mid and replace Bentick as easily as he could replace an ageing back flanker.

Do you honestly think that'd matter to him now that he's been in the system for a year? I'd imagine any allegiance to WCE will have long diminished. If he truly wanted to return home, somehow I don't imagine the Freo and WCE would be much of a deterrent.

Though I don't imagine any level of homesickness would be enough to compel a player to move to Fremantle and give up any hope of success at the highest level. Hell, Josh Carr was desperate to get out of the Perth after he'd made that mistake.

Precisely.

Seems like the poster doesn't only lack the talent to play AFL but also the brain of a footballer.

Petty club hates would be the last thing you'd be thinking about.

I'd love to play for Collingwood! I'd play for anybody if it meant I could play AFL football as a career (actually to be fair, maybe not freo - i'd like to have at least a chance of winning something)

Whilst I'm much happier with the trade that went through, if push came to shove I'd have gone for Warnock in a straight swap for Browne.

Fortunately, it didn't and I'm looking forward to seeing how Browne develops.

I wouldn't,i get the feeling he might end up a spud big time, just a opinion by the way,his always injured like Hartlett and look both injured again and not even in a real game.

We probably would have recruited Trengove with Pick 24. In terms of longevity, it was certainly a better trade but i'm confident Browne will develop into a quality half-back flanker after he puts on a little bit of weight.

(Correct me if i'm wrong but he got drafted at 28?)

Browne and Army are very exciting prospects for us!

How well did we do taking them at 36 and 46!!!

Fingers crossed robinson can become another gem

I would have hated for us to have lost him under any circumstances.
For what it is worth, we need a few more like him.

The mongrel that is our: B.R.O.W.N.E. dog
(as has been put so eloquently previously):thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

Absolutely would have spit great big ****ing chili chips had we traded B-R-O-W-N-E. He'll be a little beauty! ;):thumbsu:

Browne has been awesome from day 1. Was always against him being used in the Warnock deal as some were suggesting. Browne has the potential to be an excellent midfielder once he completes his apprenticeship in defense. :)

Trengove went to Port at pick 22. Freo chose Ballantyne at 21 :o

This is great. I've been saying for quite some time that we need more Browne love on this board. He is a hard little nugget, and I think once he settles he may be very hard to dislodge.

I would hate to see Browne squeezed out.
