This same principle made Richmond the biggest club in the AFL in the 1970's.

maybe so, but due to the increase in population growth, and the higher importance and growth in overall membersip, your success is far more significant. its not a critisim by any means, but do not under estimate what the success of those days have done for your club. Also you involvement with the outer city suburbs, and the move to waverly helped no ends. it tapped you into alot of forgotten supporters in those areas - hence why both you and the saints are now realising the full fruits of that work. i think if you got statistics on Highest memberships from somewhere like clayton down through to Frankston. Hawks and Saints would be very high

True, is it the same principle as what Brisbane have done in Queensland and Melbourne

The nature of your supporters goes against you as well, your to passionate!!!!!!!

So sometimes you cant find yourselfs going to games, hence why over the past 10 years we have outdone you in 6 of those years in attendances.

Dont blame on-field our on field performance has been just as dismal as yhour over the past 15 years.

rubbish and bollocks, give us the atendance figures over the past 10 yrs to back ur statement theres no way hawthorn has gotten bigger crowds than us, even taking into account our abysmal record...

how many finals appearances have u guys made the past 15 yrs? dunno off the top of my head but i do know its more than 2! dont try and compare..

and in one of ur posts u said richmond gets more handouts than hawthorn, then further down u state i dont know where richmond is on the list... If your gonna come in here talking facts and figures make sure theyre legit instead of pulled from out ur .rse!

He is talking about sponsorship. He is saying the poor actions of the supporters has probably made companies very hesistant to sponsor us. ie. would you want your company name on the coachs polo shirt, while a guy in a richmond scarf spits on him? Hardly makes you a "proud Sponsor"

the post that i quoted from him he was not talking abt sponsorship astro, im pointing out that contrary to some of the "points/facts" hes stating (see quote), the hawks have not gotten bigger attendances than us over the past 10 yrs, have not had as an abysmal run as us in terms of ladder position and do not get less handouts from the AFL than us, when the hawks clearly get some sort of handout, the waverley fund, what do the tiges get?

Yes in sponsorship we are bottom of the barrel, and its a combination of poor on field performace, poor fiscal performance and yes incidents like the spitter dont paint us in a good light, but thats a different argument, something I agree on

Hawthorn since 1991

Finals 4

.Richmond 2

Yes we have played in more finals series but you have played 2 preliminary finals to our 1

Okay I admit I made a mistake on the attendances we didnt beat you in those years but the stats of
1997-33 360
1998-32 789
1999-34 877
2000-35 400
2001-38 154
2002-39 912
2003-34 819
2004-28 254

Compared to
1997-36 676
1998-45 145
1999-39 756
2000-40 451
2001-45 575
2002-37 769
2003-37 764
2004-34 116

Is very respectful

We are most definatly 5th largest interms of attendances in the league behind Richmond.

Im sorry for guessing those years

At least I got 2002 right :)

no probs, thnx for clearing that up hawkk :)

sometimes the way something is written can comes across differently to wot was meant, but since i saw and replied to this thread iv seen u arent a troll and ur actually trying to stimulate reasonable discussion, apologies for coming across a bit grumpy ;)

and yes i agree you guys have come along in leaps and bounds from where u once were, the way youve harnessed and transferred ur supporter base into big membership numbers is something our club could learn from..
