In the Lakers 39 point win over the Grizzles, Bryant scored a season-high 56 points. Awesome effort from the small forward/shooting guard!

The boy was pissed after the penalty Shaq got, i just knew he was gonna have a big one just didn't know it was gonna be that big.

Damn Phil Jackson, i would loved to have seen how many he would have dropped if he played the entire game.

Anyway my my Gasol got 25 and 12 and Strom Swift again showed that he will be a damn good player.

In about 25 minutes a night he is getting 14p, 8 reb and 2 blocks, i hope the improvement continues, if it does the Grizzlies will have a heathly future

Yeah big game from Bryant, can he do it again and again while Shaq serves his two match ban....

Cant believe Miller got suspended for a game in that altercation, a guy swings at you while you have your back turned, Miller was trying to defend himself, why he should be suspended is beyond me??

I Know!! Miller gets attacked by a 350 pound 7'1 monster and for his troubles he gets suspended?? I understand Oakley's suspension as he certainly jumped in and probably made it worse but Miller did nothing??

I saw it on Sports Tonight and it was out of control, im certainly surprised Shaq didnt go for at least 5 games!

Shaq only got three games becasue he missed with his round arm, and because he has a very good record, considering what he has to go through during a game.

As for Bryant, 56 points in 3 quarters is a great effort, I just hope he can go on with it, especially in the next two games. He showed he has the potential to be one of the all-time greats. He is still fairly young, and is still learning about the game, so I think the Lakers have a real winner with him.

I dont think it matters if he missed or not, his intent was to hit and hurt Brad Miller..whether he missed or not shouldnt come into in my opinion. 3 was a little leniant.

I think he shows a great deal of restraint. He gets that kind of treatment every night. So he lost his cool once in about two and half years and you reckon they should throw the book at him.
That's a little unfair, but it's expected from someone who doesn't want to see the Lakers (and Shaq) equal his beloved Jordan's record of three consecutive championships.

the book should be thrown at him...

the treatment he receives.. u mean getting fouled?

in that case, we should have many guys eg. little allen iverson throwing punches each week while opponent's backs are turned...

coxon, I expected better from you. Sure he gets fouled, but its the kind of fouls that he receives that is a concern. The number of flagrant fouls and overly aggressive attacks to the face and neck that he gets hit with each game, I'm surprised he doesn't lash out more.
He deserved the three games and a fine and no more, but don't you think he also deserved a little bit of protection.

The thing people are forgetting is that Millers hard foul was planned, it was not spontaneous.

If you go into a play with the sole intent of a hard foul you deserve everything you get.

Cheers

It doesnt really bother me if the Lakers get 3 in a row, whatever Shaq does in his career he will never be compared to Micheal Jordan. He is the greatest there is, was and ever will be. And 72-10 is still standing so technically the 96 Bulls are the greatest team ever, until someone beats that it will remain the same.

Im just really happy that teams have turned up to play this season. The last two season have been awfully thin on talent and there hasnt been a decent challenger for the Lakers, at least if they win it this year it will be deserved.

Pfft...Shaq gets easy treatment compared to the stuff Jordan got hit with in his career. Yet Jordan never lost his cool...remember Shaq is 350 pounds and 7'1 he should be able handle whatever punishment they give out. Jordan got hit night in night out by guys Shaqs size yet he never complained.

Shaq should have been made an example of, i mean we havent seen anything of that nature in a few years in the NBA....

I never seen a guy get so many open and easy shots as Jordan. Who did he get hit by, the Boogeyman!!

Your kidding right? Jordan now and late in his career did get a lot of open looks mainly because he created the open shot by shaking the D. But back before he retired for the first time, when he still had his leap and got the majority of his points by going to the bucket he got hit every night. Especially by the Knicks..

Jonathon,
Shaq gets smashed every game cos he shoots ****ty at the free throw line. Jordan got smashed just to stop him from scoring. Jordan took some vicious bumps. Shaq takes some nasty hits. Just cos he is big doesnt make him full immune to shots to the body and head.

I agree Shaq's suspesion of 3 games seemed lenient to me, but the suspensions of Miller and Oakley were justified as well. I downloaded a package from ESPN that showed both incidents, and Shaq was taken hard on both hits. He shouldnt have hit out, but I guess after years of many many many hard hits you get fed up. I agree with P&P if you constantly hack, sooner or later, someone will have enough of it. Just bad luck for Miller that it happened to be Shaq. Nice of Oakley to run away straight after the incident too, then tackle Shaq from behind to "save" his teammate. Miller was also talking **** in the press, saying he didnt know why but he just ducked that punch, cos he didnt see nothing. BULL****! He was watching Oneal then ducked as the punch came near him.

But as I have explained to others, if Shaq learnt to hit free throws he wouldnt get fouled so often.

Please call me Jod, and if for some reason your calling me my real name to annoy me or something please spell it correctly, its Jonathan.

Well we are in agreeance that Jordan took the same amount of punishment but Jordan never lashed out, why did Shaq. I think Oakley should have being suspended, he just made the situation worse but Miller was being attacked....i dont see why he should have being suspended. Shaq doesnt get fouled that hard just cos he shoots bad from the line, its a message, the same message that they used to give to Jordan....you come in here were gonna hurt ya. It never stopped Mike and it wont stop Shaq but Shaq has to accept that that is going to happen to him for the rest of his career, unless he develops a nice three point game :D

Its not his bad free throw shooting although the amount of time he gets fouled you would think he would be a better free throw shooter by now. Cartwright said it as soon as he took over the Bulls. No more layups. Make them earn it from the line. Shaq just has to live with it, others before him have.

yes, but that makes it sound like its the first time Shaq has lashed out... the ones i remember seeing were:

Shaq (as a rookie) clubbing PG Alvin Robertson with a good fist..

Shaq threw and missed a vicious punch at sir Charles Barkley who responded by flooring Shaq with a nice WWF move..

there are probably a few more incidents that i've forgotten to mention...

Doesnt the saying go, if you have to foul, make it hurt? why give shaq a soft foul when he is strong enough to probably still get the bucket. Miller was done for 2 very flagrant fouls. since shaq usually shoots around the 50%, if teams foul him, he is bound to not score as much if they can stop him getting his points other ways. So if they have to foul him, they will make it hard. How many messages do you think these fouls are sending Shaq, and how many times does it stop him? 0 If Shaq shot at 80% he would not receive so many fouls, hence the number of "hard" fouls he cops would lower.

Exactly....you cant give Shaq an Under 12's Girls foul. This is the NBA, Shaq is 7'1, 350 pounds. You have to foul him hard to stop him not only getting the foul and the extra shot but the dunk aswell. You have to make sure they (players like Shaq, Jordan, Kobe, Iverson) dont get a shot off hence the hard fouls...

But theres a difference between hacking on the arms and big arseholes throwing clotheslines at people. I don't like Shaq, but he cops so many hacks. The hacks arent the problem, he takes those, as those are on the hands and wrists. But when people go upstairs to the chest, head and neck regions, they are asking for trouble. The ref standards have been dropping, they call pissy fouls yet are reluctant to call the flagrants. The flagrants were introduced in an effort to stop this behaviour. But if the refs arent calling them, there's no protection to the player.

If I had gits taking hacks, constantly hitting me in the face and neck, I'd have thrown a lot more than a right hook at them. Miller should be grateful Shaq missed.

I think what Shaq has to do is after a foul like what Miller gave him in that game is forget about it and go to the line and try to make your free throws and then on the next opportunity on defence, foul Miller just as hard or even harder to say you will get the exact same treatment! Or send in a benchwarmer to give out some big fouls.....so as to not get Shaq in foul trouble...if they want to make it physical....go with it IMO...

But you can only forget it so many times, he received a broken thumb from one of those hard fouls, which no doubt is in the back of his mind. Miller admitted he didnt get a call down the other end, which is why he commited such a hard foul, and with him admitting that I have no problem with Shaq swinging punches, yet I will agree he deserved a suspension for it. Problem with Shaq though is because he is bigger than everyone else, he is more obvious to the officials, and it doesnt take much for Shaq to knock someone down. So if he were to try take it out on the other end, it could backfire. I do believe though this incident might open the eyes of the officials, with any luck, not just to Shaq, but to the cheap shot artists out there who try get their licks in. The NBA needs a video review system like the AFL which will help stamp cheap shots out.

You're probably being a bit harsh on the Blazers two years ago, Jod, who should have beatne the Lakers in game seven.

Spekaing of which, why are the TrailBlazers struggling so much. So much potential, yet they are not gelling. Why?
