I wasn't even aware that Gibbs had a thumb injury :(

CARLTON midfielder Bryce Gibbs has denied a niggling thumb injury is hampering his output. Gibbs said he was striving to find more consistency, but his much-talked about thumb wasn't the problem.

"The thumb is going fine. There is not much you can do about it. I'm just trying to look after it as best I can," he said yesterday.

"There's just a bit of bruising. It's not too bad. I don't think about it when I'm playing or anything like that.

"I just strap it up. It feels a little bit sore after the game, but during the game it's fine.

"I'm getting there slowly. I played a couple of all right games and I played a couple of poor games.

"I really wanted to find that consistency this year and hopefully I can put a few better performances in the next couple of weeks."

Gibbs defended the form of key forward Brendan Fevola, saying he was regularly battling three and four players.

"Probably, to be fair, our midfield delivery hasn't been too good to him," Gibbs said.

"But being the player that he is, it is only going to take him one week to kick a bag and he is back again."

Gibbs said the whole team must take responsibility for the team's form struggles.

Blues coach Brett Ratten said this week he accepted responsibility for the team's failed strategy in last Sunday's loss to Adelaide, acknowledging an overly defensive plan didn't work.

Carlton did not kick a goal in the first half of its 44-point loss to the Crows - the team's fifth defeat in seven games.

"Ratts puts the things in place and we have to adhere by them and carry them out," Gibbs said. "Everyone's to blame. It's not his fault that we lost, no way at all."

After a confident start to the season, the Blues sit a game outside the eight and face an improving West Coast at Etihad Stadium tonight.

Gibbs said anything less than a finals appearance this year for the Blues would be a disappointment.

"We have set our goals and our sights this year on making the finals . . . If we can have a couple of wins in the next couple of weeks that will put us right back in the mix. We will be right," he said.

the only thing hampering his out put is his attack on the ball and lack of physicality. Could do with a tea spoon of concreat. Hopefully it's one of those things that come with age. Lay a friggin bump for once Bryce! Do something where you hit bodies!

Meh seems to worried about his thumb....jeez i wouldn't be mentioning it in public, first thing I would do if I was the opposition, go for the old handshake and bend his thumb...:thumbsu::thumbsd:

On a serious note...he has been going to ground a bit lately when approaching a contest, needs to keep his feet and shrugg them off like Juddy, can't go in half hearted. As he complete's more pre-seasons he'll gain more confindence in his own body and hopefully there wont be anymore excuses.

You are a tool gbatman...(seriously look at you in a batman suit? how old are you?)

If you actually watch the season in general, you'll find Gibbs has more than had his fair share of hard ball gets. Also, with his decision making and execution Ratten is using him as a link up player not an in and under player...that's his role in the team. Anyone that has followed Carlton closely this year would know that.
