Re: Buck's Brief Round 5

For an Irish lad, who has prob only played 7/8 games in his life, i think Mooney has done well.Still alot to learn but he seems to be picking it up quick enough.:thumbsu:

Re: Buck's Brief Round 5

Definitely keep the key points thing going Nicco it was a great read last week and helps generate some interesting discussion.

Ok, if you think it'd be beneficial.

So how about if Matz posts the video on the Monday, and I post the worded summary thread on Monday/Tuesday?

If that's the case, I might add some stuff to the summary so that is not JUST a summary. I'll make it interesting.... Hopefully! :s

I think it's great that Matz has shared the vid. I had no idea how to do that!

I think we should have a all in one "bucks brief" thread just get a mod to change the title on this one.

Re: Buck's Brief Round 5

OK, we'll see how this goes.

Here is the summary of the video for those who are unable to watch it, or for those who just like to have a summary as well.

First of all, I would like blow my own trumpet for a minute and just reiterate that Bucks answered one of my Twitter questions this week. I asked 3 questions, and one of them was answered, but the other 2 that i asked were EXACTLY the same as 2 of the other questions that he answered! So, many people must be thinking the same kind of questions at the moment. I was very excited.

Anyways, enough of that. Here is the summary:

1. Bucks says that the ANZAC Day win was a "fantastic result for the club (and a) great reward for the players of the day...". He also concedes that the result "clearly could have gone either way".

2. "The effort itself, and the way we played, was very encouraging (and it is) something to work from in the next couple of weeks..."

3. Bucks believes that it will be a challenge for us to maintain our form and defeat the dogs who are coming off a win, and of course states that we will pick the best side that we have available on the day.

4. When asked (my question) about having 3 players out with ACL's and will we be upgrading any players (they actually paraphrased my question on the video, but i'm still happy) Bucks responds with: "Yes we have some season long injuries in Brent Macaffer, Andrew Krakouer and Luke Ball... (but) we have got some good performing rookies at the moment; Marley Williams and Caolan Mooney to name a couple. (The) facts are that when those players are available for selection and their form warrants being played in the AFL then that is probably when we will activate an upgrade. Those two (mooney and Williams) aren't far away, and they have been in the mix for selection over the last couple of weeks... If they continue their form, as we know they will, (then we will be) looking forward to doing that if and when we need to..."

5. When asked if Tarrant, Reid, Brown and Keeffe can play in the same backline, and how fit Reid and Tarrant are, Bucks says: "Reid should be thereabouts this weekend (fitness-wise), if not this weekend then the next... So we're going to have a (good) dilemma on our hands..." Bucks describes the backline situation as "an embarassment of riches", and acknowledges that each one deserves a spot in the side. "I don't think... well, there's not space for all of them (in the same side) so (we) will need to be selecting on form and also on the ability to beat the opponents that the opposition are going to throw up from week to week... How we handle that will be a match committee decision and we'll have to address that over the next couple of weeks...".

6. Asked about the development/redevelopment of the Westpac centre: "Yer the coaches have had a lot to do with it (getting the ball rolling, so to speak)... We now will have a room for each of the forwards, mids and backs for them to own (and) have their review and preview meetings in through the year. I think that's valuable for each division (or each) team within (the) team...". Bucks also asserts that David Buttifant has been very involved in the gym renovations, and is making sure that we have the "cutting edge" technology and facilities.

7. Asked about if Mart Clarke will be a permanent tagger; "yes and no. We know he plays very well as a running back for us and we will be playing him in that position more often than not. (however), when we feel that there is a specific match up... that we think suits Marty, then yes, we will have him run with players from time to time. I wouldn't say that it would be a weekly occurance... but at certain times we'll feel that it is appropriate..."

8. Bucks ends with thanking everyone for their questions, and stating that they have ben "coming thick and fast". He also says; "I do apologize for not talking directly about selection. I'm sure you'd understand (that) we do not want to be giving to much away to our opposition..." He also says that they haven't had match committee, usually, when he does the 'ask bucks' segment and so he really doesn't know exactly who is playing.

Didn't even manage to get 10 points this week, but that's ok. I encourage you all to obviously watch the video that Matz has posted if you haven't already.

My thoughts are:

1. Buck's is very respectful of the Bulldogs opposition, however it must have been hard for him to say that it may be hard for us to continue our form with the bulldogs coming off a win, when that win was against GWS. But good on him for showing respect.

2. It seems we have had our questions answered in regards to the 4 big guys in the backline. If we can't play all 4, then which 3 get the gig? For some reason i am leaning towards Tarrant being left out. He is, however, an amazing defender. I think the exception is if we play against the Hawks i would bring Tarrant in to play on Buddy.

3. I have a feeling that Marty Clarke will be playing run with a bit more often than 'every now and then', as he did such a good job. I don't think that Bucks wants to let the cat out of the bag, but that might just be me being facetious.

My question to you guys is if Reid is ready to go this week or next, do you think he will come back through VFL? Imagine if Taz and Reid came back through VFL together! Doubt it will happen, but would be pretty cool!

Cheers
