These two were awesome players and i find it hard to seperate the two of them, both brownlow medalists captains and norm smith medalists of their clubs.
I got them both on the same par, but im interested in getting all elses opinions on both players accounts.
I watched both players tear the blues to shreds on occassion and hear about the best players having played the game over the last 25 years, these two are standouts for me, as they could play in many positions and were ball magnets.
So to all supporters what are ur thoughts on the comparison between the two, who would u rather have at ur club if u needed the game won?

Thread needs more

Essendon people will choose Hird Collingwood people will choose bucks.

Both Champions of the game but i reckon Bucks was more damaging with the ball.

Gibbs, becoz his still playin.

Isn't that how we judge players bluespodge?
No dapperdick
If u look at the post i started the thread about two retired super stars
most of the threads i have come across are about current or retired players.
Waite versus Franklin
Lockett versus dunstall
Brown versus Cloke
R Harvey versus Crawford

Not when a player is still playing and performing against a player that never quite got to where his fans wanted him to be.;)

We shall see who they hate more. :)
Lol nah both greats should be respected here.

Who did they hate more?

I cant understand why anyone would hate jimmy Hird, My little cousin approached him after the round 2 essendon blues clash in 1996 and he was a top bloke to talk to.
Bucks is much the same in my opinion
Both damaging
so be it lets see who the more hated player is than:thumbsu:

Any danger of organising a poll??

Both champions in their own right, both match winners when they had to be, both exceptional leaders of men, both brownlow medalists, both norm smith medalists. I guess I'll have to go with the only premiership medalist (only way I can split them) and say Sir Jim Hird.

But seriously both quality players.

I'd choose Buckley.

Pies fans would choose Buckley.

Dons fans would choose Hird.

A lot of people rate Hird as one of the best in the modern era, so I'm guessing most non pie/dons fans would choose Hird.

I always had a thing for Buckley over Hird. By the smallest of margins, obviously

thread still needs poll

Nah it's Buckley because he got 20 brownlow votes in a wooden spoon year, which Hird never did. This proves he can perform when his side is crap, not like front runner Hird.

Plus Buckley won his brownlow at 31, Hird won his in his early 20's. And we all know how much better it is to perform later in your career than early.

Hird polled well in 2005 or 2006 i think with some games missed he was unlucky at that, pretty sure he could have won it otherwise.
I cant split them, had kouta at the club wasnt enough, these guys had that extra edge he didnt have.
But full credit to bucks winning it at the age he did so, thats just a great indication of great a player he was.
Pretty hard to do, diesel williams won it twice, 23 in 1986, 31 in 1994
it is a harder feat when ur an older player though.:)

hird voss buckley

hird i dont think was the best at anything. he was just great at everything. could play anywhere.
buckley was prob the best player of the 3. skill wise anyway.
voss was just a mans mans footballer. loved him. had one massive kick on him as well.

if i had the choice of the 3 i would take voss and then buckley or hird. fairly even i reckon. hird was a more courageous player and bucks was just an amazing footballer.

yeah how could anyone dislike figjam buckley...

he started his career at the scummiest football club in Australia (pt adelaide) and finished it at collingwood.
