Hawthorn superstar Lance "Buddy" Franklin has reportedly been caught speeding 40km/h over the speed limit yesterday afternoon.
According to radio station 3AW this morning, Franklin was detected at 90km/h in a 50km/h zone in Hodder Street, Brighton East.
Officers from the Moorabbin traffic management unit reportedly detected Franklin driving a car that was not his own. He was fined $599, lost his licence for six months and received six demerit points, according to 3AW.
Comment was being sought from Franklin and the club.
Victoria Police confirmed a 35-year-old Brighton East man was caught at an alleged speed on 90km/h in a 50 zone, and confirmed the driver was fined and lost his licence.

If it were 5kmph over the limit it would be a non issue.

40kmph on the other hand is an issue, especially when it's someone of Buddy's standing.

But it's hardly surprising you've started on damage control.

Not going 40 kmph over the speed limit. That is much, much rarer. And also incredibly dangerous.

50km zones are residential streets, shopping strips or outside schools - 90km/hour is much too fast and anyone who does it deserves to lose their lcense and be heavily fined.

And if it's an AFL player it's news - if it's one of the highest profile players, it's big news, like it or not. Aaron Edwards copped plenty of publicity when he did it and Buddy has a far higher profile than him.

And Hodder is a back street, and to be 40 over is totally irresponsible in anybody's language.
Hawthorn have to show courage and leadership and suspend him for two weeks (after his 3rd from injury) and set a good example from the club.
