www.Cnettech.com.au is their website.

They're a great store they have 2 stores near me, whenever i walk in there's no lines. always have alot of stock (well of what i've needed so far. lol). The people who work there always know their stuff. and if you ask something they don't know. they will check for you.

REMEMBER when getting prices from MSY, they don't have stock of ALOT of items. even when they're on the price list... especially really cheap prices.

You walk in. wait in line an hour and then ask for what you want they say "NO STOCK"... OK... what else is there that's suitable and they always tell you an upgrade that isn't much/any cheaper than other stores

I've just built a puter and is two whole days old lol. Can anyone tell me if I've done all right, cos it's all mumbo jumbo to me!!

Fox Conn ATX 400 W Black case
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E6550 2.33 ghz
Gigabyte Motherboard GA P35-D53
Kingston DDR 2 667 - 5300 - 4GB
gigabyte Geforce 8600 GT Video card 512 mb
WD 250 GB Hard Disk
WD 500 GB H disk - secondary drive
Poneer DVD Burner
Vista

Seems to go all right!

Someone also recommended me the 8800 GTS 512 instead of the 8800GT 512, and putting 4gb of ram instead of 2gb even with a 32 bit OS (I have XP Home). Is the GTS worth the extra cash and will 1gb or 1.5gb of ram on top of 2gb really make a difference?

Always get more ram. Can never have enough ram.

QFT

go with 8800GT.

Although you will have to call them and place one on order to get it. I've called Cnet and they're expecting some from their supplier on friday and they're holding one for me. the supply of 8800GT's 512mb version just isn't high enough.

BUMP.

Purchased these components over the past week:

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0 Ghz 6MB Cache 1333 FSB LGA 775 - $259 (CPL)
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L - $123 (CPL)
Transcend 2GB DDR2 800 Mhz PC6400 RAM - $53 (MSY)
Galaxy GeForce 8800GT 512MB 600Mhz DDR3 Dual DVI/HDTV PCI-E - $289 (MSY)
Western Digital HD 320 GB 7200 RPM 16Mb SATA 2 - $92 (CPL)
Cooler Master CM-690 Case - $99 (Scorp Tech)
Cosair HX-520 520w PSU - $129 (PC Maniacs)

Total: $1044

Beats my other estimations hands down, I'm so very happy to get these components at such a price. Especially the 8800 GT (at $289!!!). :D :D

Will be building it tomorrow!

Awesome. where are you buying the parts from? are you going to buy them from all of those stores?? lol

What if a store doesn't have stock (which is quite common, ESPECIALLY WITH THE 8400)

Alot of stores will say they have 8400 on websites but have NO stock. cause of the demand for them

i KNOW scorptech have E8400's as of thursday though.

Awesome. where are you buying the parts from?

I already listed the places.

I already purchased them, so yes, I did. Clayton/Notting Hill specifically. :)

The CPL in Notting Hill just got them in stock yesterday, and I went there at opening time and got one myself. They're all probably gone by now.

They cost $10 extra.

Thermal paste??

Nowadays you just peel the tab don`t you.

on the HSF??? yeah. that stuff sucks

I personally use Coollaboratory liquid pro, which is very very good, not that easy to apply though, and hard to get here.

Arctic silver 5 is good and you can get that at any computer shop

or you can use the cheap stuff that comes on the HSF.

Which is pretty much all we do. We gave the paste away years ago when the heat sinks started coming out with them on board - and have never had a problem. AMD, Intel and Via.

The last time I used some was to replace a fan on a northbridge chipset.

who's we??? not building the computer for yourself?

I personally have built quite a few computers for others and always used the stock HSF stuff.

But whenever doing something for myself i put the good stuff on. because it's not expensive and it's just another step to take to get the heat down on the CPU

Sorry - should have said.

I run a communications company. We build a ship load of servers for our customers as a part of the business.

Thawn, are you using a stock cooler? If you overclock I recommend the Thermalright ultra extreme 120. Also let us know your 3DMark06 score, I reckon you'd get pretty awesome Bang for Buck with that build. Nice work.

I went a bit more high end with my machine - quad 6600, SLI 8800GT's, but it almost cost double the price of yours ($1850) so I'd be keen to see how your cheaper build stacks up.

Yup, and I'm not planning to overclock (well, not yet anyway).

I'll let you know as soon as I build this rig and tweak everything to optimal settings.

yeah. with stuff like that you don't want to waste your time applying thermal paste and then having the possibility of it not being applied properly.

With your own gaming build you want everything to be good and if it helps temps even by a little bit, why not? you can get good paste really cheap.
