Not pretty but good sides must have the ability to play this type of grinding footy (i.e. Plan B). I've noticed that our VFL side has been good at this in 2024.

I haven't seen this in the senior's side for a long while. Hopefully, Bevo has seen how it is working well for Footscray and the "penny has dropped".

Agree. I hate low scoring games where you dominate, as 2 quick goals means it's almost level again and anything can happen. But our effort was awesome for 4 quarters. Didn't give them any easy possessions which meant we never let them back in.

I get a bit confidence from left field. It is unlikely any team is going to lose a couple games for the season. The swans have lost only one game so they are due for a loss. However, to make this happen we need to be on as well as them being off.

I saw something the other day that had us in the top 6 teams in the comp this year on all the metrics….wecarecinjecting youth into the team for the first time in a long time and it shows in the inconsistent results. I reckon we’ll be there when the whips are cracking

Bont was also wearing a hard tag by Callan ward , so he took one of their best mids out of the game . Ward had 19 possessions, Bont had 18 but as the game wore on Bont clearly had more influence on the contest .

It was not a poor game from Bont.

People really need to watch the game rather than look at stats.
Recently teams have been closely tagging Bont so he hasn’t had as many clear possessions but he has still been having enormously positive impact on games.

His taps to advantage which aren’t credited as stats are often more impactful than a handball or a kick.
Plus he clears space and occupies so much of the opposition’s resources that he makes the game much easier for his team mates.

Bont was still very good today, including taking an amazingly difficult mark at a crucial time when GWS were charging mid way through the last quarter.

It is also wonderful that Bont doesn’t have to have a new bestest evah game for us to win.

Wood, CD, Dale all taken in the same range.

He kicked 6 goals from the wing last year in one game. The kid can play but I think he needs a few more games to get more confidence and composure. Best 22 next year for sure.

Jamarra is pretty poor atm. Needs to go to the seconds. Provides little forward pressure and his kicking is atrocious. Tackling is also poor. Bramble is a spud. Apart from that, it was the best win of the year so far. We played really well. I like the look of Freijah. He is gonna be good that kid. Darcy is a star in the making. Cleary was solid too. Keep it up dogs.

the JUH situation is difficult. reminds me of when English was very poor but Bevo felt we couldnt move him or drop him.

Dropping him might hurt his confidence and wellbeing at a time he is working through personal issues.

At the same time his disposal is absolutely atrocious, both field kicking and for goal. wouldnt be A grade amateur level. leans back laconically like he is Doug Hawkins level. really shouldnt be playing at the moment.

i dont think he has impacted many games this year. does anyone (Oliver) have his AFL PRs for the year?

Dropping him might hurt his confidence and wellbeing at a time he is working through personal issues.

I would say that his problem is likely to be technical and some sort of off-site specialist diagnostic coaching may help. He is certainly putting in effort and occupies an opposing defender.

Therefore his value outweighs the lack of personal goals. Many good players go through these sorts of patches.

If you’re using “Taps to advantage and clearing space” to defend a players performance then it’s a sign they’ve had an ordinary night.

You can paint it which ever way you want, but for his high standard games, that was underwhelming (better?). He’s the best player in the comp at prime age. He’s not a 35 year old Pendles.

Not sure about you, but if Bont was to play out the rest of his career, playing that game each week, I’d be disappointed.

On the flip side, not that long ago I think we could all agree that playing a game with an underperforming Bont and no Libba, we’d have pencilled in a 10 goal loss. We’re in new territory. It’s exciting.

Great win, with a lot of the bottom end players holding up well.

The Bont is clearly one of the all time greats.He played a selfless game yesterday until they had no choice but to stop the tag.

Loved the hawk,loved turtle,Jonno etc - but this bloke is next level and a player’s player.

He was very good yesterday all things considered, and I think he is still carrying a niggle.
