Burning MP3s to a CD

My question is,

If you burn some MP3's onto a CD using windows media player (XP) can you then play these tracks on a normal CD player, or is an MP3 player needed.

I noticed that when burning a CD, windows media player goes through a "converting" phase. Does this convert the file format from MP3 to CD track?

No,

If you're going to burn MP3's onto a cd, to play in a cd player (like a hi fi , or car stereo) then you'll need to convert the mp3 into wav files.

There are plenty of freeware mp3 to wav converters on the net, just do a search on google.

Of course some burners provide their own software like Nero to do the job.

That sounds good, i do have Nero express 6. Does the conversion take place automatically when you burn the MP3S or is there a setting somewhere that i need to use?

Also are WAV files larger than the windows media format seen in windows media player?

Not too sure about Nero Express 6. But with normal Nero you simply choose audio CD either via the Wizard or by clicking on File New and then selecting audio CD from the column on the left.

You shouldn't need to change any other settings.

File sizes aren't relevant. You will only be able to record 75-80 minutes of audio on to the CD totally irrespective of the Megabyte size of whatever it is you are recording.

I had about 80 odd MP3 songs on my computer that I burnt onto a cd. Most DVD players will play MP3 files and also the alot of the new car cd players are also able to play MP3 files. Of course the quality isn't as good, but it's like having your own jukebox. With all your favourite songs.

Just get yourself a copy of Apple iTunes - does the job as well, if not better than any other software available, and it's free:

That does sound familiar, looks like Nero express 6 has a similar menu to the original.

Yes, if you use the "Copy to CD or device" option in Windows Media Player, it creates audio CD's without any hassle. The converting phase does convert it to a CD track.

No point in getting other software if what you have already does it. Windows Media Player is all I use to burn music.
