Burton Gone??

According to Fox Footy tonight, Burton WILL NOT play again this year.:(

Although he still hasn't had the check up with the Docs (apparently scheduled for Thursday) this is the news that has been reported.

I really hope this is not accurate.

Craig was on TV tonight saying he'd be surprised if Burton requires surgery. Nothing definite yet, though. Fox Footy report was pure speculation.

Does it really matter? One player will not change the destination for this side in 2006. If we are good enough we will win the grand final with out him, just like we won the Grand Final in 1997 without Ricciuto, Modra and Vardy

Brett Burton is only one player

Hmmm.. we're ****ed. Moreso if Burton won't play this year (I think Channel 7 had something about it?)

FFS, we are not.

It the system and structure put in place by the coaching panel that will win the Grand Final, not one player.

Hasn’t anyone learnt anything this year, every player is interchangeable and versatile and that allowed for flexibility in who plays and who doesn’t.

I'd much rather him in the side than not. Every little bit helps when it comes finals time. And, despite the side's flexibilty, the reality is - and always will be - that some players are more valuable than others (to varying degrees).

I don't think Burton has to be in the side for the Crows to win the GF, though. But it'd help.

Of course that’s a given, but it not the end of the world.

It would definitely be disappoiting as an individual achievement as he has earnt every right to play in the GF if we do make it. He has been an integral part of our team and just it only takes one day to have it taken away from it all. I cross my fingers and hope it's not the end for him this year and it would be a fitting reward for him to be able to contribute towards our finals endeavours.

Look at Norm Smith Medallists over the yrs C98. Very often the cream rises to the top - Judd, Buckley, Mc Leod etc in recent yrs

Bird is one of our few gen-uine match winners. He would be a MASSIVE loss to our chances if he doesnt play in Sep

ps you use more red angry face icons than anyone else on this board. perhaps an anger management course for you old son!

What the best on ground nearly every match of the season is best on ground again in the GF? What a shock.
Let's go to the tarot again shall we.

!tarot Will Burton play finals?
the Tarot Card for your question is: The Moon - Imagination. Dreams and psychic impressions. Sometimes psychic work. Illusions. Inability to see things clearly sometimes resulting in personal depression. Sometimes signifies fiction writing or acting, particularly work in the entertainment industry. Losing control of one's daily life. The unconscious mind. Type !Moon to see this card

Perhaps media illusion?

Brett Burton hamstring TBC
Ben Hart hamstring Test

Nathan Bassett hip 1 week
Ken McGregor hamstring Test
Luke Jericho shoulder season
Chad Gibson quad 1 week

I thought a team had 22 players not 1. Boy was I misinformed.

We had some pretty handy replacements in 1997 though. Johnson and McLeod spent time on the ball to replace Ricciuto, Troy Bond kicked goals as a small forward in Vardy's absence and D Jars eased down to full forward with some success.

Burton is just one player, however no one can fill the role he plays.

The loss of Ricciuto in 1997 made a huge difference didn’t it.

LMAO, I guess I should give Dr. Buddy Rydell a call and make an appointment hopefully I am not a lost cause. :thumbsu:

Thanks for your concern :D

Martin Mattner will be a perfect replacement if Brett Burton was to play on the wing, Scott Thompson if he plays on a half forward flank. He is a very good player and will be missed but it’s not all doom and gloom.

No one is irreplaceable, not even Chris Judd. It just means that other players have to step up and help improve there own game with in the system and structure.

You missed Shaun Hart somehow.

Also look at the top rated players by the Norm Smith panel for the side that won the premiership last year - Fosdike, Kirk, Buchanan, Barry, Roberts-Thompson. Apart from arguably Kirk and Barry (who are still both below the Hall-Goodes match winner echelon) it's not the cream of their list.

True.

That's true - but Johnson, McLeod, Bond and DJ were going to be in the best 21 anyway.

What was critical in 1997 was the guys who replaced them in the side - Tyson Edwards, Brett James, Simon Goodwin - all stepped up and contributed in the Finals.

Can Burton's replacement in the 22 (be it Bock, Skippy or someone else) do the same?

Has there has been any news on the results of the scans Birdman was due to have today ?? :thumbsu: :thumbsd:

No news is good news!

IMO, There is value in not letting anyone know whats going on anyway, It would monopolise an opposition discussion if he were named as emergency for a plelim. and change their approach.

I'm happy not knowing:thumbsu:

Burton targets finals return
1:19:17 PM Fri 18 August, 2006
afc.com.au

Crows forward Brett Burton will attempt to rehabilitate his injured hamstring rather than opt for season-ending surgery.

His hamstring tear may still stop him from playing this year but Burton said he was keen to try “as hard as possible” to get back on the track and push for selection.

Adelaide medical staff are optimistic the injury can be managed and natural healing will occur. They will reassess Burton’s progress at the four to six week mark.

“If I have surgery straight away, then I’m definitely not going to play in the finals,” Burton said. “But if I go down the rehabilitation path, at least that gives me some chance.”

Burton tore his hamstring tendon in the final minutes of the round-18 clash with Collingwood at AAMI Stadium. He has been a strong performer for the Crows this season, kicking 39 goals as a hard-running half-forward.

Poor bugger! :( Oh well, at least there is a small glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel.... let's just hope it isn't a train!

Nothing to lose by delaying Burton's surgery. We badly lack his X-factor at the moment. Hopefully he can make a successfull return half way through the finals.
