Bad news for Burton, Hope after this his knee doesn't trouble him anymore than it has.

Please no more injuries.

Awww poor Burton! We're having a bad run with injuries of late!
The one positive of this is that Burton now shouldn't keep Walker out of the side early in the year. That's the one issue I can see for the club this year as I don't think we can have both in the same forward lineunless Burton is played on the wing. (Taking into account Tippett will be there as well as probably one of Hentschel, McKernan or even Davis as our CHF)

I disagree. I reckon Burton is ahead of Hentschel. I think if anything Hentschel (rather than Burton) is fighting Walker for a spot. For mine, Tippett, Walker and Burton are the first 3 out of our plethora of tall forward options.

Agree totally, sad to say but Hentschel's future lies in the backlines if he has one. He's behind Walker by a fair way in my opinion, as are McKernan and Davis (both not ready for AFL yet based on NAB Cup R1).

Next 3 forwards in line are Porps, Knights, Douglas to make 6.

Burton can still be a massive asset for us, let's hope there's no further complications.

The guy's old and iirc is known to be a slow healer, it's no surprise he is struggling to get back. That is the reality of it, we can't be hanging our hopes on blokes coming from a long way back like him. If he returns successfully it's a bonus, same with Hentschel.

It is interesting then, that Burton, Tippett and Thompson all left before training had started yesterday on the Gold Coast. It appears that they hadn't "trained" before the rest of them at all (that's what they told me), rather had a fitness test. Let's hope the other two are ok!

Actually Rowdy trained very well yesterday and didn't look as awkward as I saw him last season. This set-back for the Birdman definitely puts him behind Hentschel.

Burton was ahead of his 12-month deadline for the full recovery of his reconstructed knee. He hasn't missed a beat all pre season and certainly hasn't looked hindered at all by his knee.

I remember against Port, maybe in the third quarter, he landed awkwardly in the forward pocket. The Club is reporting he pulled up sore from the game so I presume he wasn't experiencing any soreness beforehand and injured his knee in the match as said.

Burton was/is always going to be a risk given his age and history. This was supposed to be his big year with a full pre-season to get conditioning and kms into his legs. I guess that's out now...........

Who will step up now?

Anybody else will.

The guy is 30+ inconsistent and now it seems injury prone, I don't think the club or the majority of supporters were pinning their hopes this year on Brett Burton. I personally didn't even see him in the team much barring injury to other players anyway.

The advertiser mentioned a fab 4, which was Mcleod, Goodwin, Edwards and Burton. Using Burton in the same context is insulting to the other three as they are far better players who have mastered something Burton never has, consistency. The guy has played in 11 seasons and has had 3 to 4 good ones. Whereas Mcleod, Goodwin and Edwards have been good every season.

In a way I am glad, it makes it easier for the selection committee

Just a quick reminder - When Burton came back late last season he became the second highest goal-per-game scorer for the crows. To not understand his significance to our forward line is ...well, ignorant.

How you get goals is more telling than how many goals you get.

The only impressive performance in 2009 by Burton was his 4 goals against Geelong in Round 18. He did kick 4 against the "Powerhouse" Port Adelaide in a drubbing, and 3 against the "heavyweights" Essendon in the Elim final.

Oh my what a superstar, clearly one of our greatest players ever to have played for the Crows (Thats the impression you get from advertiser articles about him).

Another gripe I have with the media in regards to Burton is their assertion that he has some sort of "x-factor" and whenever the finals roll around in recent years he apparently is the big x-factor for the Crows. Yet in his entire career he has been pretty average in finals, and only on two occasions did he play anywhere comparable to the performances of Mcleod, Edwards and Goodwin in finals, and they were in 2003 semi against Brisbane he kicked 4 goals and was in the best, and 2007 elim against Hawthorn where he picked up 22 disposals and 11 marks.

Don't get me wrong though, I like Burton as a player on the occasions where he plays well and isn't the teams designated Turnover controller, while inconsistent at times he can pull out the freakish goals, marks and disposals, its just that over his career he hasn't done it enough for mine, to warrant the praise he gets from the media.

Yeah i thought the same when i saw that in the paper, how did Burton get included in the Fab 4? it was always Ricciuto was as the other member of the fab 4, just because he has retired you can't just include the next oldest player by default.
