Was on the bus yesterday and these kids were throwing a soccer ball to each other across the aisle, the bus driver promptly stops the bus, gets out, goes over to the kids, takes the ball from them, gets out of the bus and puts the ball in the nearest bin he can find

Do they have this kind of power? Surely a simple warning is all that was needed?

The kid rushed off the bus to get his ball and the bus driver quickly closed the doors on him and drove off. Normally I would laugh 'Haha take that you soccer ***" but this behaviour seems pretty ****ed up.

What can and can't these guys do?

i can understand his frustration but of course he cant do that

when i was a regular bus traveller i used to get frustrated with all the rowdy teens at the back (oh god i sound like an old person)

He'd have to put up with some much crap during the cause of a day... stuff like that doesn't suprise me.

There are some great bus drivers out there and some very very poor ones. Many people have stress throughout their day but can not react in such a fashion.

Let's not forget that they only run 2-4 school runs per day along a preset route, and several runs during the day where they might have a couple of old ladies and the odd unemployed person heading down to the local shops, but apart from that they are not that loaded.

I've heard drivers telling people running for the bus that if they lost some weight they wouldn't be so out of breath when running for the bus, I've seen them ignore requests to stop at the next stop, then eventually stop a kilometre up the road and made the person walk back. Seen them skip parts of their route or go past bus stops with someone waiting as it gets darker, then when base calls up and asks if they went to the stop, the drivers says he did but nobody was there.

Many of them are crotchety old buggers who grunt all answers and believe their passengers are worthless.

However, I did have one driver heading into work in the city where we used to have Xmas parties on the bus, play music, used to get on the mic and talk to the passengers about things of interest along the way. Frustrated coach driver he was. I used to hate missing his bus and catching the next boring bus. Had a whole social circle going on that bus, even met up at a restaurant. A few hotties I used to hang out with too.

Yes they do. Maybe you should learn to respect other people instead of having a go at them because of some kids mucking around with a soccer ball. You pay a fare to get on the bus so respect the driver because he wants to get everyone home safely.
We had people swearing using the typical F word and C words when there were elderly people on there. They kicked up a fuss because they didn't like the swearing. Fair enough as well.

Were the kids wearing their seatbelts?

There was a big conference in Sydney last week about safety on buses highlighting how many people have been killed or seriously injured whilst riding buses. It recommends all buses have seatbelts installed, and that school buses are not to move until all kids are wearing their seatbelt.

Don't blame the bus drivers...they are under strict instructions due to possible litigation. Bus companies are being sued everytime some ratbag kid gets hurt whilst riding their bus.

Last time I checked there aren't seatbelts on PT buses. At least not in Melbourne. Maybe there are over there...

Had he already given these kids a warning perhaps before you'd got on?

Seems an arseh*le thing to do really. I've seen people do worse on buses.

and that may be the reason......

this is basically the same thing you said on the taxi dirvers thread

you a part time bus driver and part time cabbie or something?

imo, most bus drivers are grump old sods, just like cabbies.

No but I do catch a bus each day to TAFE. And when I do catch a cab I don't waste my time abusing the drivers. Treat them the same way as you would want to be treated. It is the same with the way you talk to your family. If you talk in a mean way then you will get treated horribly if you talk in a nice way you get respected.

umm where did you get the idea that anyone was abusing the bus drivers or cabbies?

Lets just say the kid (you didn't say the age - would be different if they were 9 or 15) who was kicked off the bus miles from home in the middle of nowhere was then picked up by a pedo, r*ped and murdered ?

A similar thing happened a few years back when a security guard threw some kids out of a shopping mall in the US - one kid who had nothing to do with the trouble makers but was thrown out with them ended up dead.

Bus drivers (at least in NSW) cannot kick minors off a bus, esp a school bus. Their only option is to drive to the nearest depot or police station.

Did you stop swearing?

This kind of thing can happen regardless of where a kid gets off a bus.

Yes, but "what if" is just speculation that doesn't really do anything for the case. I mean, what if the kid got off his bus at his destination (i.e. not at home) and something happened? What if a kid was abducted in the shopping centre without being thrown out?

Agree - but I know I would be pretty dirty if my 8 year old was thrown off a bus in the middle of nowhere (on the other hand my 14 year old usually deserves to be thrown out)

Fair enough, and I don't think kids should be thrown off buses "in the middle of nowhere"...or anywhere really. But I don't think there's much need to bring an emotion ploy into it with "what if they're kidnapped or r*ped" or something like that.

Fair enough back at you. Although my brother in law is a bus driver, and that was pretty much the scenario they were given as a scare factor. He never has any hassles on his runs though. Given he is a shaved headed tattoed kick boxer driving on the North Shore of Sydney probably helps though - the passengers are more scared of him than he is of them.
