Yeah, I think the only "fact", as such, is that he tested positive. the rest is just speculation.

The circumstantial evidence is pretty bleak. He did recover quickly, there seems to no good reason for him to take a diuretic in that instance, he has the motive for taking steroids (World Cup approaching, looking over his shoulder - so to speak - at up and coming spinners), his body shape altered fairly dramatically over a short time. And, one we may have overlooked, he has stated in the past (in relation to the phone sex incident) that the only thing he did wrong was getting caught. If that's his attitude, he may have deemed the risk one worth taking, considering his career may well have ended if the recovery was too slow.

But none of that is hard evidence, and none can really be taken into account come the hearing.

Nevertheless, the onus is on him to come up with a good defence. "I was stupid" won't really cover it.

this is not a criminal case. the notion of innocent until proven guilty does not apply and anyone who argues that it should has no idea (infact they are probably the same people who are hoping they'll get chosen for jury duty on this case)

to be frank, there have hardly been any more black and white / open and shut cases as this one.

if warne gets some slap on the wrist here, i see absolutely nothing stopping anyone from taking masking agents in the future, so they might as well scrap them off the banned list and let steroids run wild.

Given there are five countries participating in the world cup who have no cricket anti-doping code who's to say it isn't already.

who... and where do you get this info from??

they come under the juristiction of the ICC in this tournament. if a player is caught, it will not be their cricket board deciding the punishment

During the tournament, yes. But several countries have absolutely no domestic drug testing program. So they are only subjet to testing when participating in an ICC event. The rest of the time they can do what they like.

which countries??? are the players who supposedly arent being tested playing professionally or are they amateurs like you and i?? because ive certainly never been tested.

to say i would be shocked to learn that PROFESSIONAL sportspeople weren't being tested would be an understatement. if the namibians were not being tested, i'd put that down to the fact that they are basically playing park cricket, and not receiving any money for doing so.
