Shannon is much maligned on these boards, sometimes for good reason. His efforts today (despite a couple of loose disposals) are what he needs to do week in, week out. His tackling has been good, he's been running hard to get to the contest and, most of the time, he's keeping his head when he's got the ball. As a result a number of his disposals have resulted in shots at goal for the Cats. We've got Wojcinski, Stokes and Kelly to come back so I'd expect Byrnes to be one of those players to make way. If he can keep up, and build on, this form then at least the Cats won't feel the loss of the players he replaces so much and at most, he'll work his way into the best 22.

Dont know what game you are watching. He is hopeless.

Last week he was brilliant this week he seems to be playing like his crap old self.

Byrnes, being tackled, handballs to Chapman, Chapman kicks an easy goal.

Byrnes runs through a pack of Roos, gets the ball, being tackled, great handball to Selwood who spots up Mooney for a shot on goal.

Byrnes, effects a tackle in the pocket, ball spills free, Kangaroos with numbers start to work the ball out. Byrnes recovers, runs 35 metres to effect the tackle with Selwood. Ball comes out to Ablett, has a shot on goal.

There are a number of other tackles he's made in the middle of the ground.

YAWN........ You speak garbage.

Byrnes is garbage. Will be dropped for Stokes.

I have a feeling the dud has played his last game for the club.

Its beyond me how he keeps getting games

In terms of fringe players..

One thing you must credit Byrnes is that he gets his hands on the ball a LOT.

His handballs are usually effective, unfortunately his kicks are to open spaces or to opposition players or between one of the large sticks and one of the smaller ones.

If he could pinpoint a foot pass or kick straight (particularly from set shots) he wouldn't cop half the flak he does.

Even Buddy who is a superb footballer cops shite because he can't kick straight.

Ugh. I can't defend that performance. I thought he did a few good things, but that DE% says it all really. :(

Back to square one all over again.

His handballing is crap, for someone who is stuffed when he's caught on his non dominant side his handballing should be first rate, it's far from it.

I've been a fan from when he first started, a real little dynamo who had pace, a strong pair of hands overhead and a penetrating left foot.

His decision making is atrocious if he's not on his left foot. He's a liability. He should be proud of what he's acheived and he'll retire as a premiership player.

Maybe it's just me praying he doesn't kick when he gets it then:p

lol. I think the shame of it is that when he first came on the scene he was a pretty handy kick in general play, particularly on the run. It seems to me that he was a choker in front of goal, he started spraying them and as a result lost all confidence in his kicking and it's affected his whole game.

You can see when he gets the ball on the run. He takes off with it and if he's not on his left he will just try to keep running until he can get onto his left, if the opposition doesn't let him then he's stuffed. Case in point would be the one where he got pinged today against North for running too far, he just couldn't get onto his left hand side.

The one he handballed to Chapman in the river end right forward pocket in the second quarter today that Chapman snapped for a goal. I don't think it was good play or good thinking I still think he would have handballed it to Chapman even if Chapman had 15 North players around him. He's like a deer in the headlights when he's under a bit of pressure and needs to make a decision. His eyes open wide and he just hangs onto the ball.

Shannon byrnes is a complete and utter disgrace. His disposal is extroardinarly inept. He cannot kick to save himself and seems to get in the way of the classier players we have. His only redeeming qualites are his pace and ability to win the ball. Please call it a day on this pretender cat attack!

That's a breath of fresh air eliiiiza. Kudos.
