Did anyone notice how many times he chased down the opposition?
The first time that Stokes had the ball bounced over his head and completely missed it, the opposition got it and then it was a great chase by Shannon and was very quick - Vacoesque style.
His game wasn't as good as against Brisbane, but he was good enough to hold his spot assuming Egan doesn't return in two weeks time.
Despite his sub par disposal, he does find the ball, and what I particularly liked on the weekend was the passion and intensity he played with.
That's the sort of commitment that will win us the flag. He's a tough match up, is super quick and seems to now fit nicely into our structure.
Don't get me wrong, there are a number of better players at Geelong that aren't getting a game, but the idea is to pick the best team, and at the moment he fits quite well into our structure....just like West Coast miss Hansen for his role in the team more than he actual ability (which I'm not questioning)
He will be playing in the Prelim for sure, although if Egan made a freak recovery *pictures Ablett snr waving his hand over his foot*, only then would he be made a terribly unlucky omission.

Effort and commitment was/has never been an/the issue with Byrnes. Yet on that note, I can't subscribe to that been an argument for his retention in the team. Really, the sort of effort and intensity that he plays with should be a prerequisite for selection for all
players.
I thought he was much of the same yesterday, which is really not enough in my books to warrant a permanent spot in this team. Keeping in mind the structure/roles that the club has in mind, he'll probably retain his spot, but in the event that we do make any changes, he'll probably (and rightfully) be the first name looked at.
Here I am again showing how dumb I am, but what actually happened between Bomber & Fresh?Callan - not while Thompson is coaching
You should have stopped there, because I actually believed you!Fresh got with Bomber's girlfriend, who was once Kingsleys girlfriend...
He has played in the seniors since the alleged outburst from Bomber.Who do we have pushing for his spot?
Tenace - nah
Callan - not while Thompson is coaching
Varcoe - best option but a completely different player
Prismall - could be the surprise packet but unlikely
DJ - more of a defensive player
Gardiner - not good for team balance
I think it will be horses for courses during the rest of the finals series. Assuming all players are available, Thompson will pick either Byrnes or Varcoe depending on who will pose the most trouble for that particular opposition.
Byrnes is so 2006 with his down the wing and to a pocket play.
FFS it is 2007 look for the corridor man.
i second that motion!!
Yep ill rply +, shazza > varcoe tho u hate 2 etc. 1 spot in PF 1st, then granny. Howzatt? (Sorry to include punctuation)yep, as much as i hate 2 admit it, he has been pretty good the last couple of weeks. he hasnt done enough wrong to drop him yet. i think it will be he and varcoe fighting it out for 1 spot in the granny, and i somehow think shazza will win that one.

Sssh, your putting some facts into the Callan meme. Remember, sensationalism should always trump the actual story! He has played in the seniors since the alleged outburst from Bomber.
