I would've been ditching Dave Hussey before Katich. He's had enough poor performances at international level. At least Katich offers something.

Amazed Cummins gets a contract for a few T20 performances. Sure, encourage his development but giving him a contract is ridiculous.

Another strong season from Wade would surely put him right in contention next time around.

Offers something? David Hussey has been outstanding for Australia this year, being our second best performed in the ODI series against England and then doing really well when they finally gave him a game in the World Cup. If he'd been played for the whole World Cup (instead of White, who was way out of form) we may not have had to face India first up in the finals.
I was a bit surprised to see him get a contract, but he's a few years younger than the likes of Katich and Mike Hussey, so I don't have a major problem with it.
I imagine plenty of others will, though and will whine and whine about it on here very soon.

As for the others, I'm a bit surprised that Cummins has gotten a contract ahead of Hazelwood, for instance.

If last summer was embarrassing I shudder to think what will happen this summer with that list. They drop the only bloke with balls and bring in tail ender Phil Hughes to open. Selectors are useless.

Patrick Cummins - NSW - 18 (the 5 or so other NSW seamers keeping him out of the time)
Xavier Doherty - TAS - 28 (Assuming Hauritz is the OD spinner we hardly need the back-up to have a contract...Wade or McDonald or someone plz)
Ben Hilfenhaus - TAS - 28 (anyone)
Phillip Hughes - NSW - 22 (Katich)
David Hussey - VIC - 33 (Once again, Wade. Neither are in the best OD team so go with the younger one, plus one who has performed very well in domestic List a)
Michael Hussey - WA - 36 (I'd be dropping him before Katich at the least. One good summer doesn't make up for the 18 months in the lead up....)
Jason Krejza - TAS - 28 (O'Keefe.)

Would have to agree with all of that. Cummins looks a good prospect but don't tell me that he will have suddenly leap frogged, Cameron, Copeland, Starc, Hazelwood.

Also the only thing Steve Smith has going for him is his date /place of birth. He has done nothing to suggest that he is deserving of a contract.

Probably the right call, Kat is a champion, but we've all been calling for generational change.

Still a bit 'meh,' - CA has seriously reduced my interest in Cricket over the last 24 months.

w***ers.

Disagree with the call on Kat but agree with the rest.

Apart from Katich out, which is a shocker, I don't think the list is that bad.

Ultimately contracts should go to those that have been playing for Australia and are likely to in the next 12 months.

Krejza is very lucky unless they have him in serious contention for the test spinner spot. He was only at the WC because of injuries to Hauritz and Doherty.

Cummings is on potential only. Pattinson was around the fringes of the team at one stage and fair enough.

The rest have all played a decent amount of cricket for Aus in the last twelve months or would have if not for injury.

Shattered that Katich is out.:(

He's been our best and most reliable batsmen since his return averaging 50+ and this is what he gets? Even when playing injured, he still managed to get us off to good starts. Not to mention the numerous times he's gotten us out of bad positions.

I'm not completely surprised though, given the disastrous Ashes series. It was apparent that Cricket Australia wanted to get rid of one of the older blokes to head towards the direction of youth, unfortunately Katich was always going to be the scapegoat (rather than Ponting or Hussey who've both been on rapid declines in the last two years), despite still being well and truly up to test standard.

I really hope Katich proves the selectors wrong (again).
