News just coming through that there is a cafe seige with a hostage taken at Rye on the Mornington Peninsula, more to come.
scary stuff regardless of the outcome.

I cant be too sure but I was in woolworths which is a few shops down from the cafe as it all began and talk was that the owner was being held by her husband. Employees didnt seem too surprised and said they have had trouble with him often.

Why do people always lose their shit this time of year.
Your boss wants regular month productivity even with two weeks closed this month.
Your family expects a financial outlay when there isn't any extra money coming in.
We are raised to think Christmas is magical then discover it is based on (censored for the kids).
The in laws never have anything nice to say but you have to play nice or YOUR the jerk.

All things I see.

The realisation that you haven't fulfilled your New Years resolutions and now you're out of time. You haven't gotten into shape, you haven't learned French, you haven't gone backpacking in India. The only thing left to do to distract yourself from the failure that is your life is to have a breakdown.

Santa's going to find out who's naughty or nice, I'm betting this guy has just made the naughty list.

I wonder if this thread plays out like the Sydney siege thread did; cringey jokes for the first few pages until people realise the seriousness of it.

Although there have been some quite hyperbolic thread titles on the GD lately so I don't know what to believe

Siege is such an abused word.

Agree. A siege is a group of people surrounding a fortified building of sorts and waiting for the trapped victims to surrender while you fire projectiles at said building.

Taking people hostage inside a building and having people surround it is a hostage situation. image.jpg

Nah, just shit boring. No one even died. Australians feel threatened and unsafe when some crazy mother****er gets about six people killed in Sydney. We haven't seen a genuine terror attack since Port Arthur, and even that one has some fair questions in relation to its 'lone wolf status.'

I learned last year in my first year working in retail what a crock of shit Christmas is.
