I might add that Cain looks very keen in the training vids I've downloaded from Saintsational. Looks like we might have been lucky to lose Knobel the way he is going. Brooks is coming along quite nicely now too.

Knobel will not be missed. The guy is pretty ordinary, both on and off the field. :)

Shhhhhh dont speak to loud, we dont want Richmond supporters to find out this way. :D

But i am very happy we got Cain Ackland, he will get games, opportunities and will show his full potential.

If Ackland can make good some of his potential he will be 10 times the player Knobel was for us.

If Brooks can stand up aswell, and with Blake as a pinch hitter our ruck strength isn't that bad.

It all comes down to injuries, if he has a good run Ackland will be a very solid contributor.

it almost saddens me to think that they rate Ottens as a such a dud and at the same time are rapt to Knobel and expect big things from TK.

Ottens worst game is CLEARY better then TKs worst. Ottens worst game is better than TK's average game

sad sad ppl

That's crap skeptic.

They are two different types of players, and Ottens is on about 3x more money than Knobel.

Ottens two problems was his consistency, and his physicality (or lack thereof).

As long as Knobel taps the ball, takes a mark here and there and uses his body a bit, i'll be satisfied, and so will a lot of tiger supporters.

I mean, what have we "risked" by getting him, a PSD pick and 160k?

Wow, what a ********up!

The problem in that is..... Knobel doesnt get taps, and when he does it is not to the right team.

And he cant mark.

Sorry to brek the news to you! :D

Was one of the few who rated (now very highly) Knobel. He could take a mark, and could tap the ball. However, he couldn't kick to a target and couldn't position himself to tap the ball to advantage.

Have been very impressed by Ackland at training, but we'll see how that pans out.

I wish Knobel the best of luck at Coburg and hope he gives the JJ Liston a run for it's money.

I was just wondering if any of you had ever watched Cain play before? Or are you all just going by his training

cain does not have the heart to play AFL period. Known him for 12years

I think we might wait until he plays for us a few times to see (rather than just firing him on the spot on the word of some poster named crazy_big_al)

He didnt get a game with Port, because of their ruck stocks.

With us he will be given plenty of opportunities, and we will have to wait and see how he goes.

But i am extremly confident.

Im not trying to be harsh but he did not get a game at Port because he was not up to it. All the time he was in our squad and we had Primus injured, Lade injured, these guys missed a lot of time on the sidelines and Ackland had chances. When French was at the club he was ahead in the pecking order, then French leaves and Brogan comes in as well and moves ahead on the pecking order.

I watched a lot of SANFL footy and at absolute best he was an average SANFL player. He was either injured or playing average footy. Although Knobel was not exactly an elite ruckman so perhaps he can replace him.

So none of you have actually even seen him play......I wonder if you had even heard of him before you picked him up  .

What Sheeds has written is spot on!!

I've seen him play and he was better than Knobel. Thats all that matters to us.

Proudportwa yes I have seen him play. I follow SANFL football. He played ok against my SANFL side everytime I have seen him. I follow the side that Dean Brogan played for and believe me i am ASTOUNDED at the improvement that he has made. All that Cain needs is a good pre-season and some confidence from his peers and he will be fine. Mark(chocko) Williams gave him a wrap but obviously you guys know more than the Premiership coach

Yet he played 24 games for the Saints last season?

So Knoble didnt get 460 tap at an average of 20 a game last season? If he does that and chims in with his 3 marks, 6 touches and runs stright at it (are you going to deny he goes hard at the ball?) and uses his body we got him at good price.

A 24 year old, 200cm+, 100kg+ ruckman in his prime for 150 grand. Shattered to have him at the club

I wouldn't bother Bentleigh, I'm amazed at the arrogance for some (and only some) of the saints posters, apparently St Kilda has been an amazingly successful powerhouse for the last 15 years (and yes before the rabble starts frothing at the mouths, I know how crap Richmond have been for the last 20 years and with any luck we can win back to back spoons and emulate your clubs rise up the ladder).

Knobel is nothing special, but if he can bash and crash in the ruck, get first hands on the ball (and at least nullify the opposition ruck) and free up Simmonds to play up forward then for 160k who cares what people think of him.

Can you please show me where I said I thought I knew more than Choco??? I asked two simple questions, do you follow SANFL and have you seen him play. WTF do you go and add stuff like that for  I follow Port in the SANFL to, always have and hence I have seen him play, so was just asking you the same dam question!!

Have a cry sooky pants Dont blame me for you following a feral football club

1/ Most Saints fans were never a big wrap for Knobel. To dismiss our misgivings as simply being bitter that we've lost him is ridiculous. Some of us respected the way he went about his work but he was a liability around the ground. His crash and bash style did upset some of his higher rated opponents in the centre square but it must have been nice to have the likes of Harvey, Ball and Dal Santo in the centre of the ground.

2/ We've had Richmond supporters like Bentleigh hanging around like a bad smell for the last 3 months. Congratulations on signing Trent Knobel and we wish him the best of luck but for goodness sake you didn't sign Jesus Christ. You'll find that out soon enough.

3/ As Cain Ackland has only played around a dozen games many of us haven't seen him play too much. I remember watching him in a Wizard Cup game against Geelong either last year or the year before. I've repeatedly read that he has a poor work ethic and is lazy, injury prone etc. From all reports he has been training very well and that's to be expected because he knows he has to win the respect of his new teammates. As a shorter and more athletic ruckman than Trent Knobel it will be interesting to see how he goes. One thing is for certain, JB is a good judge of talent and if Cain wasn't thought to be up to it he wouldn't be playing for us. We appreciate the input from Port supporters but some of us rate the opinions of John Beveridge, Matt Rendell and Grant Thomas higher. That's where we get our information from. We may not have seen him play in the SANFL but the people that matter have. They see potential and now the rest is up to him.
