We all know this kid has some footy ability but he has to be one of the most overated youngsters going around. If he didnt have the last name morton then who knows were that would leave him.
 
he stringed together 3 good games which he pulled out of his ass
palmer should of won it no doubt

im not saying he isnt a good player but certainly not a top 5 or even 10 pick,
will struggle in the AFL because hes an outside player who gets all the easy ball and not prepared to put his head over the nut and win some contested ball

possibly the worst example you could use

those 2 blokes are 2 of the hardest working and best players the game has ever seen

morton is cheap and relys on people to give him the ball instead of getting it himself. relied on palmer and masten and those hard nuts in national champs to give it to him

Talk about bad examples mate, do you watch AFL at all? This day and age it is all about running and finding space, when do you ever see a genuine contest other than in the middle of the ground at the centre bounce, which he will probably be playing on a wing? Absolutely no idea mate!
 
I watched the WAFL colts preliminary final last week.In the first half morton didn't get a sniff and didn't lok interested.
In the third quarter, he got serious for about 5 minutes, took 3 marks and kicked 3 goals,his side went to the break with a 15 point lead after being 15 points down early in the quarter.In the last quarter, he took 2 marks and kicked another 2 goals, his side won going away.
Obviously he has talent but needs to be more involved over a longer period in the game.
I didn't like the arrogance he displayed after kicking each goal, especially when some of his teammates were busting a gut to get it to him.
I haven't seen enough of him but his teammates, McGinnity and De Boer looked better prospects.Good work ethic, running capacity and clever use of the footy to bring others into the game.
 
Wouldn't say that he's quite as bad as you're suggesting, but I do think that this whole "he is the key to getting Chris Judd" business is a bit overstated, as though West Coast are holding him to be the one player worthy of trading Chris Judd in return for.

If he's anything like his older brother at West Coast, then he's probably over-confident in his own talent and therefore workrate might be an issue, like it has seemed to be with Mitch.

I can't imagine West Coast would be so set on Cale Morton that they would insist on a trade bringing them back pick #2 or #3 so that they could get him.

Undoubtedly IMO Palmer is a much better footballer, but you can't ride this kid off altogether. In this day and age every team needs its fair share of recieving type players to feed the forward line with precise kicks, and if this kids disposal doesn't let him down then he has a chance at making an impact at AFL level..

E.g Gilbee, Pendlebury, Gram,

That description fits another WA boy who was drafted at five in the 2004 draft.

And both players are tall mobile types with the ability to kick long goals.

And there's three highly rated mids who could get picked ahead of him.

Yeah, Weaver isn't saying he's going to be a star based on that :rolleyes:... he's saying that there'd still be as much hype if he had a different surname, due to the fact he won the Larke Medal.

I agree with you, AFL is not as contested anymore.

Most possessions in the back half are un-contested.

You need a mix of all type of players, aren't Morton's foot skills outstanding.

Happy to have him at Carlton, we need good users by foot.
 
cale morton is as arrogant as it gets. way to over confident and "cocky". i agree with u about how afl has free'd up now but the physical pressure is still there mate and morton simply doesnt like the physical contact. SOFT!!

agree, hopefully the Demons will get Palmer with pick 4
