Hi All,

There has been a lot of talk about Patty Dangerfield coming to the Cats I would just like your thoughts regarding Cale Morton from Melbourne if we couldn't get danger. although his confidence has been destroyed @ the Demons I beleive this Morton can play he just needs to be in the right environment and with 1 pre-season with our guys, the kid could slot in very nicely.

Problem is what would melbourne trade for him.....3rd round pick perhaps ??

Depends on the cost. I havent seen a lot of him but i have noticed he's been in and out of the seniors this year but like you said it could be confidence thing.

I should probably post this in another thread but what about Travis Tuck? Highly rated Juniour who's apparently doing well in the VFL and he'd be desperate for another chance. Plus as he's not on any list we could pick him up for nothing.

Travis Tuck wouldn't be bad even if we were to rookie him, give him a chance to get back in the AFL system

Geelong would be the sort of club that could get something out of Morton. He is talented despite his form of the last couple of years. Put on about 6 kgs this pre season then snapped a tendon in his finger, had to stop gym work and lost it all again.

Problem with trading him is he was pick 4 in 2007 so from our pov trading for a third round pick in a weak draft just isn't worth it. I can't see a trade being agreed upon with any club tbh...

From what I have seen Morton could either be:

a) A really talented player who is stuck in a bad situation; or
b) A talented player who is soft as a pillow

If he is a), then he is worth a decent draft pick.
If he is b) then he is Aaron Fiora and not worth much.

He hasn't failed for long enough that Melbourne would just give up on him (ala Richmond giving up on Fiora) and he hasn't shown enough that other clubs will give up a decent pick for him.

He is probably untradeable, the supply and demand sides of the market will likely not be a match.

The only way I could see him getting traded is if he seriously wanted out of Melbourne and tried to force a move.

He is a dead set horrible footballer. Would never want this bloke to play for the hoops.

He's soft, a horrible kick and makes very poor decisions. I can't see a future for this bloke. Geelong should stay away, even if we only have to give pick 80, i'd still be dissapointed if we got him.

Can remember watching Morton in U18s and liking him but the little I have seen of him at Melbourne he has really struggled to find a spot that suited him. Sort of a Mackie frame and he took some time to find a spot and if he was not at Geelong who knows if he would have made it.

Do we really need him at Geelong? I don't think so.

On Tuck. Is he an inside player? If so then Id be more willing to look at a spot for him

Edit:

I remember a quote about Wells a month or two ago:

"He loves players who are hard at the ball and can't stand those who make stupid decisions. He also listens to the right people and doesn't canvass his ideas with others, sitting on his own to watch games."

Does this sound like we would go for Morton?

Trading 101 - Trade for a player that will make your AFL side.

I know, it's a bizzare concept but I think a few here need a bye or at least a visit from general soreness.

Morton has looked OK and a change of scenery might be of benefit to him but then again if he's struggling to get a gig with the Dees he'd want to go up a couple of notches if he wants a gig in our 22.

Tuck has showed even less and with his 3 strike policy already done and dusted I don't think he's the type of character we go for.

Unless Wells & co feel that there's nothing or next to nothing in this draft then we'll probably sit on our hands come trade week.

Thats fair for serous trades but Tuck would not be a trade would he , its just a risky late pick. And plenty of sides have done risky trade and risk late picks that have worked and not worked. Take Pies. Ball the just used a pick on him but traded for Krakour , who like Tuck had a problem back ground.

You are probably right on Tuck but with FA approaching, with the draft diluted and with us being late we must be creative in adding talent to keep up the likes of the Pies.

Is Tuck tearing it up in the VFL to the same degree as Krakouer in the WAFL though? Krakouer had shown something in his first run at AFL, just had a trainwreck off-field life to stuff it up. Tuck wasn't really getting a game prior to being delisted.

There are a number of other players in the VFL who are playing a heck of a lot better than Tuck, if that's the type of draft road we decide we want to go down.

Besides Wells rates character as a very important criteria.
