there is a thread on the main page about him, and apparentally we were supposed to hide him away so we could draft him.

there are some good raps about him - but that is the par for most guys at 17 or 18 years of age, but clubs don't usually go to the trouble of hiding a guy away unless they know he is good.

anyone know how good he is?? should we go for him in the draft, and is he now expected to go in the top 15 or 20, or could we still get him with 40 or something like that....

It's a really good story, however as an Eagles fan I don't know how to think, be positive that perhaps we'll unleash a player no-one else knows about, or be upset that perhaps we've cheated the system to get a 17 year old kid?
Great food for thought though and an interesting read...
opinions?

No idea what he's like other than the footygoss article. I'm guessing now that everyone knows he exists, we would have to take him 1st round - probably won't be available for long after that.

Other sides do it all the time, so why can't we? I think we should be doing more of this stuff... absolutely nothing wrong with it. It's not our fault other clubs don't rate him or don't know about him.

Haven't seen Burges - but who has?

I saw Kepler Bradley play for West Perth firsts on the weekend. The most impressive WAFL debut I've seen since Graham Polak - and arguably better, since Polak was left at FF (where he was fantastic).

Bradley would be 17 years old, 6 foot 5, still growing. He played on the wing, in the ruck and as a rover - in his first game of WAFL football. He played about 2 and a half quarters, got 21 possessions (more than anyone else in a poor WP side) and looked absolutely brilliant.

First touch was mark of the day. When the game was lost, he ran 30 (or was it 45, it got longer as the weekend progressed) metres to lay a shepherd for a team mate.

He is fantastic. Unfortunately he'll go top 5 in the draft I would have thought.

We should trade Carroll for him (at least).

Not necessarily. His name popped up about a week ago, giving scouts little or no time to have a look at him. No club is going to waste a 1st rd pick on a player they know nothing about, and probably not even a 2nd rd pick for that matter.

Would he be invited to the Draft Camp ?

According to the article a few of the scouts came over to have a look at him, but just how much of an idea can you get from watching a game or two. The Eagles have had a better opportunity to look at him and would know his value.

The only way other teams are going to get a really good look at him is if he went to the draft camp.

If the Eagles were genuinely hiding him and didn't want others to look closer at him they would try to find a way for him not to go to the camp.

As with all draft hopefuls there is always that chance that he may be a complete and utter dud.

He has played a colts game, so some scouts will have seen him - this weekend they will get another opportunity and if he goes to draft camp he will be wide open.

Wrong dasler, Bradley is a fierce competitor with loads of ticker.
Bandy was a show pony who thought he was better than he really was when in fact he was fairly dumb football wise.

Have only heard good things about Kepler Bradley - should go Top 10 unfortunately for us.

As for Burges - I hope Gepp knows what he's doing here. Would be better to rookie list him before throwing him into the deep end.

It is not very likely that a Team like the Eagles could hide someone away. unless of course they played poorly for a year or two. Then played a game to qualify, as this chap has, as again tanked it. I think it would be pretty silly to do this as he would need to prove he could mix it in good company.

Further, I know someone who is a good prospect to be drafted this year. I also know a Team Scout. There is very little chance that this lad hasnt been spotted by another team. The Scouts are at the Private School games. They get everywhere. You would be amazed.

Nah to be honest I don't think so. He wont be physically big enough(strength) to be a ruckman IMO. Loads of ticker and is a ball magnet i do not doubt but the effectiveness of his disposal is very very poor.

Look he is either in the you love him or hate him bracket. I see the makings of something special in Kepler but he just isnt effective enough and makes some very silly decisions IMO.

I agree with ONE EYE on Callum Burges. I try to watch alot of WAFL colts football when i get the chance to see what's going through the system.

On the note of Callum, its hard to say as I dont really take an interest in PSA as it is a nothing competition as far as im concerned. Therefore i cant really comment on the boy.

If West Coast think he is that good there must be some potential about him, for his own good i would have played more WAFL rather than take a punt on being taken by West Coast.

People dont realise football is professional and you are the only one who can sell yourself...........why not do it against the best?

True but scouts aren't at every game, every week. The games they do attend are largely based on feedback from other people working in the industry. Callum wouldn't be the first or the last not to play much colts. I suspect people presume he is being hidden because he has only played the one colt game, which he must do to be eligible to be drafted. Luke McPharlin and Justin Davies (Essendon) are two such players that come to mind. One is a good player and the other is a hack. Still, you wouldn't think West Perth staff would make outlandish statements about him being drafted so high, unless he really was very talented.

The kid is 17yrs of age and still learning the game and who said he is going to be a ruckman.

He will most probably be the first taken from WA in the National Draft and is a very good chance to play AFL next year.

It is possible for any Team to try and hide a player and that is the case with Burges however they have been caught out because of what could be best described as an internal stuff up. If one of the other Teams lodged a complaint the AFL would investigate the matter, fortunately for WCE no one has as yet.

Well if that;s the case then Yakuza who do you expect to be invited to the Draft Camp this year. Keeping that in mind 60-70% of the invitees go on to be drafted.

I'm interested as you guys seem to know alot about the colts too.

So you are saying that the Eagles will Draft this kid if he is still there when they have their first pick?

The following will be, or probably have been, invited to the Draft Camp.
Paul Duffield, Brent Hall, Matthew Moody, Jacob Surjan, SF
Brett Jones, Chad Jones, CL
Paul Richardson, Matthew Spencer, SD
Kepler Bradley, Michael Pettigrew, WP
Michael Johnson, PERTH
Lane Spaanderman, EP
Farren Ray, PEEL

Each State in conjunction with the AFL hold Screening Camps where other players get invited to.
