Just wondering what people thought of this trade? The Sun has listed it as a trade that is likely to happen and there have been a lot of wispers. Either Pies or Roos fans may be able to help.

What is he like as a second ruckman?

Is he a true Leigh Brown type in that he would thrive in a structured role?

I can't find too much on him but he did win the Werribee B&F so he can at least kick the ball.

I remember he smashed it against the West Coast at Subi in round 1 (last year I think).
If he didn't cost us much I think he'd be a good pickup.

This is the guy i want

Lynch - past it
Martin - cost to much

This is the perfect guy to target he is Leroy Brown v2 waiting to happen

Well What I am hearing he is the most Likely people been talking him to us for Quite some time. Though we could get Lynch as well.

Lynch has more Grunt

Yes but Lynch is 29 or 30 this bloke is a good 5 years or so younger

and you would probably get the same production from both

complete no brainer for me.

I don't see it as a No Brainer. We have Witts and Ceglar coming Thru. They might see Lynch can hold the Spot for 2-3 Seasons where Witts and Ceglar be ready to go

Only if cheap, like a 3rd rounder at best. I believe he is contracted. If Norf want more then that, then move on. He's merely a stop gap for a year or 2.

role players these days are very valuable with the sub rule he would be in our best 22 every day of the week.

A guy that can't get a game for North? No thanks.
Leigh Brown couldn't get a game at North towards the end of his time there either.
Neither could Ted Richards at Essendon. Sometimes its a case of right fit, right club at the right time.

Like Pederson, Brown was no world beater (and if I recall Anvil was pretty horrid as a defender for us), but he filled a role so well that many of us a clamoring for Anvil v2.0.

Pederson may or may not be the final answer but structurally he would fill a gaping hole that IMO probably cost us any chance this year.

Yeah good point, if we do get him then let hope it turns out that way.

The only real difference with Leigh Brown was he had played 150 odd games when we drafted him, but without our lifeline his career was probably over.

honestly i would play pedersen next year over dawes if he kept playing like he did this year. dawes would have struggled in the vfl this year IMO. he is a very versitile player, who is sort of a tall mobile midfielder, who can playruck and forward. but was also drafted as a defender so would be a handy pickup even if we did sign lynch.

this will probaby get shot down pretty fast but maybe pedersen for luke rounds, supposibly there are at least 2 clubs looking at signing him, unlikely trade but maybe north are after him and doubt that pedersen will be traded for anymore than a second round if he is lucky

He's going to get the chop so why bother trading for him?

FWIW have a look at Brown's numbers v Roughead's. Someone who can fill the role like Roughead does (Clarke or Martin) is what we really need.

Brown was average at best in that role and we were all over him because he brought physicality to the line up. Pedersen doesn't have anywhere near the aggression so to make up for it he'd need to be a stronger ruck or forward option than Dawes, which he isn't!!

In his last 2 years at North, Leroy played 22 games in 2007, in 2008 he played 9, Emergency for a further 4 and suffered a shoulder injury.
Compare that to Pederson's last 2 years.

Some are easily pleased. Yes role players are handy but our back up ruck/forward needs to be better then this bloke if we want a flag. The guy is 192? Cm. he'll get killed in the ruck and is not a big bodied player like Leroy for the contested marking down forward.

This guy is not a long term player. These mature aged player rarely become long term players. The ones that do, don't spend their 2nd years playing VFL. This guy was deemed a poorer option up forward then Hansen and young Tarrant. Hmmmmmmmm.

We have many young talls on our list that will get every chance to overtake this guy IF he was able to cement a spot in our best 22.

We may as well take a punt on VFL/SANFL/WAFL guy who has similar attributes.

Q Stick far better option and cheaper.

I take your point - but reality is that if he wasn't behind Hansen and Tarrant, if he was getting more games, then we wouldn't be having this discussion. The appeal of Pederson is that he represents untapped talent, he is unwanted and he would come cheap, so the risk is minimal.

As Sydney have beautifully illustrated, you can turn someone else's trash into your own treasure and history is littered with premiership players who have been given 2nd chances and have been good role players eg Anvil.

Speaking of which, we shouldn't be obsessed with getting an Anvil clone. Pederson represents a better proposition in the backline but would be a presence in the fwd line too. Plus his rucking wouldn't be much worse than Brown's (let's face it Anvil's role was to make ruck contests - for him to win a centre bounce was as rare as a Benny Johnson right-foot kick).

Again, I emphasise that Pederson is not supreme quality and there are better 2nd ruck options out there eg Pyke, Nic Nat, Tippett, Zac Clarke, Roughy, Rhys Stanley but they aren't available or would cost too much.

Maybe Q is a better option but until its confirmed that we've landed him, I'd still keep an eye on Pederson
