He was fantastic. I haven't looked at the votes thread but I hope he got some, because he shut down Johnson (Again) and got plenty of it going forward (And used it well).

I am the first to berate his kicking but he's been good this year. His kicking is the only thing that holds him back from being an A grade player.

Well this is new?

Bruce love? About time, seems to always cop a lot of crap over his kicking, yeah it's average at times but he can still come out with some exceptional kicks at times.

Now just wait for BC to begin the Bruce bashing.
Hate Bruce. :p

Being fair, "Tracksuit" was pretty good yesterday, but no surprise that it coincided with him being given a job and not a free role to go get the ball.

We have the players at the club now that Bruce should be handing it off and not trying to do too much himself. I reckon he has a good brain on him, so he should know his limitations, start handing it off to Grimes, Morton and Bennell as they stream past.

I'd rather he get 20 effective disposals and do a job (which we know he can do) than go and get 35 cheapies like he did last year, when he did SFA most afternoons.

And I didn't give a vote, but I didn't give one to McLean either. I have a strong bias against players who can't kick and yet continue to do so.

1. The tracksuit yesterday was justified, it was actually cold.

:p

2. Just reading that bit about people who can't kick and continue to do so, I noticed Jones using the ball a lot more by hand rather than foot apart from the beautiful kick from about 55m that carried over the fence between the big sticks.

Begs the question, are the coaches telling players who do struggle with kicking to go by hand instead?

Bruce - 26 disposals (7 kicks 19 handballs)
Jones - 25 disposals (4 kicks 21 handballs)
Martin - 17 disposals (4 kicks 13 handballs)
Moloney - 37 disposals (12 kicks 25 handballs)

Then we've got players that seem to heavily favour going by foot rather than hand.

Davey - 28 disposals (20 kicks 8 handballs)
Morton - 37 disposals (23 kicks 14 handballs)

Is this a result of the new gameplan or is it just our midfielders who struggle to hit targets by foot just try getting the ball to the guys that can hit targets because they have no faith in their kicking?

Yeah he was better yesterday in a stopping role. The less time he spends starting our attacking thrusts. This is where stats are the biggest lies. If you have a look at his effectiveness it is always up there but im pretty sure if you hand ball it to someone who is tackled immediately it is still effective because bruce hit the target.

he was OK and I agree he's better when he's doing a job...

BUT

I am still furious when he shirked a contest on the HFF when we had a chance to close the gap (i think it was late in the 3rd Q)...

Did anyone else see it? Bruce was running with the flight of the ball, a Dee and Dog were about 20m away running towards it and if Bruce had've really attacked the ball, we would have got a 2 on 1 situation in a dangerous position. Instead, he took his eyes off the ball, took a couple of baby steps, looked to see if the Dogs bloke was coming (which he was) and before you know it, the ball was up the other end.

Soft.

Yes i was furious about that as well i can put up with some bad kicks but a incident like that is not good enough especially from a experience player.

Cameron bruce is weak. He was on his way to being an A grade player in 2004 i think, when he got injured for 12 weeks. He was favourite for the brownlow until he got injured in fact.
