Blues Bolster Stocks
Blues’ recruiters have described Giles as a “dashing defender” who hails from Woodville-West Torrens.
Rogers says the young South Australian could join Lachie Henderson in Carlton’s “swingman” stocks.
“Cameron is 195-centimetres tall and played as a running defender this year, but played up forward for most of his junior career,” Rogers said.
“He plays a little bit like Brian Lake – he takes a risk, knows how to take a mark and gets a lot of the ball, averaging about 20-possessions per game.”

Player Profile
It’s not very often a player standing 195cms and 93kgs is able to take off regularly from defence, running, carrying, bouncing, dodging and weaving his way past the opposition as if they were withes hats, but that’s just what South Australian Cameron Giles just does. The prodigy from Woodville West Torrens has stood out to draft enthusiasts as a super freak, capable of doing things is size suggests he’s not capable of doing. An athletic freak, Giles is a brilliant athlete and his mobility for a player of his size is what makes him such a tantalising prospect ahead of this year’s draft. Often seen rebounding from offence, playing as if he were 15cms shorter. Giles loves to run and carry – a trait unheard of for players his size – which, history tells us he should be playing as a shutdown player, channelling his energy into shutting down a key forward. But not Giles. Not only is he gifted in his mobility and agility, he has unheard of speed to break the lines, and constantly present as a threat, a danger player who just creates out of instinct. The great thing about Giles, is that it’s his multiple efforts that really present x-factor, he continues to push forward, even when the ball has cleared the area, pushing up to a wing to force his direct opponent be accountable, and with little key forwards able to go the journey with Giles, he racks up an un-canny amount of rebound 50′s. Giles has got the class, ability and x-factor to become a very damaging prospect in the years to come, and given the enormous upside in his game already, he’s sure to be highly sought after come November.
Strengths
Elite kick of the ball, fantastic ability to read the player, an attacking weapon off half back, strong hands in the air, very good 1v1, can play lock down or as a free-wheeling defender, good below his knees, clean skill set, good burst of speed, solid endurance, is a constant threat coming out of defence, great decision making, good under pressure, fantastic work-rate and pushes back with ease, offers multiple efforts, has a great endurance base.
Weaknesses
Can sometimes be a little bit too attacking and needs to improve on his tackling game (averaging only 1 per game). Although SA had the likes of Darcy Hourigan, Mitch Harvey and Luke Reynolds in what was a potent forward line, I’d love to see Giles develop into a swing-man role, which I feel as though he would really flourish in given his natural instincts to attack.
