What are peoples thoughts on Cameron Kickett as a possible key forward?

See video at:
http://www.afl.com.au/video/tabid/7...+kickett+highlights/default.aspx#VideoPlayerB

He has played his career as a ruckman even though he is only 193 cm. However as this clip shows he has a great contested grab and is bloody fast and mobile. He won't be a ruck man at AFL level but I say pick him up late or in the rookie draft, put some muscle on him and develop him as a key forward.

With everyone going goo-ga over Majak Daw, it seems many will overlook this guy who has actually played footy since a kid, showed some form and made the WA U18's.

Absolutely love the idea. Can he be taken in the Rookie draft? What age is he? I liked the way that he moves and positions himself. Was that a flashback to the lovely Clem that I just felt?

It would be beautiful music if we picked him up with the pick that we got for Drum. He could be a very useful player for Freo in future. Love it.:thumbsu:

yep, definetly... on name alone he should be recruited ;).... he looks a player though doesnt he... i liked his pick up early in the clip and then ran off his opponent at the very least i would rookie him

stole my thunder about drafting him on surname alone!
Seriously though reckon we need to look at this type of player especially for the rookie list. We need to take a punt on a few of these types of players as we have very few kpp that are young. If it doesnt come off who cares but we need to at least pick out a couple of raw 6 footers and see if they can develop.

Available to be picked up in the national draft or rookie draft.

He seems to have been typecast as a ruckman growing up, even in the State 18's he was trialled as a ruckman. Certainly seems to have a much better contested grab and agility/ability at ground level than many of the key forwards we have had over the years - Dan Parker, Murphy etc...

Murphy is currently trying to win the Dan Parker Award.

The prize named after the WORST player to ever play for Fremantle.EVER!

I saw Kickett against South this year and his work around the ground was excellent, particularly his positioning and marking. At 193cm he was giving away a fair bit of height to Damien Hayward 201cm at boucedowns but did well against Hayward who I think was the best tap ruckman in the colts.

Sorry fitzy, had to amend this:

"Dan Parker was a reasonably tall guy, it was his football that let him down";)

I will defend him here and get torn a new one :-) he was young and didnt have an AFL body but for whatever reason we played him a key position forward.

Matthew Clucas, Dwayne Simpson or Michael Brown are the shittest players I have seen at Freo.

Fire away

What let him down has far more charisma. Someone who supports liverpool should surely appreciate his choice of words also.

Ill have me one of them there root beers bartender.

Dwayne Simpson. Fair call though fitzmantle.

Was Dwayne Simpsn a better player than Brendan Feddema? I think not! Dan Parker actually kicked a couple of hauls of 3 or 4 goals so you could hardly say he was terrible. We have had others much worse:eek:

dan parker... built like tarzan, played like jane..... i reckon that pretty much sums him up.

dan + parker = zero testicular fortitude.

Brendon Feddema did a knee tho, so he gets let off the hook. Im also vaguely related to him somehow, so i cant start bagging "blood" now can i :D

Paul Maher only played 3 games aswell i think. One of those games he was looking really good, then did his knee D: Dont think hes our worst player ever though, just popped into my mind and i thought id share the memory with you all :D

paul maher could have been anything had he not did his knee, luke toia did his knee in the same game, i was in the rooms after the game and although we won, you would never see such a sombre mood

Yeah 2 knees in one game. That was so f*cked. I think an Adelaide/Hawthorn guy (whoever we played) did himself a serious injury in it aswell.

I kepy an eye on Maher for ages after that, hoping hed come good, but couldnt get a look in D: Spewing.

Poor old Clem got a raw deal aswell. Looking back on it, weve had a pretty rough trot with knee injuries. McManus, Maher, Toia, Michaels, Longmuir, Palmer... Modra and Allen had done their before they came over.

Other than WC, i wouldnt imagine many other clubs can compete with that. :/

I was a big fan of Cameron earlier in the season when he was playing good footy with perth colts.

I wanted WCE to rookie him, check some of my earlier posts around may and june.

But have gone of him a little, due to his high skinfolds and a lack of focus.

I have spoken to him a few times this year, and my impression is footy is not the be all and end all for him.

i.e not the most professional kid, has bad eating habits and doesn't work on his recovery enough.

I know the under 18's guys where not happy when he injuried his thigh in the championships and didn't do enough recovery work to play in the next game.

But does have enormous talent.

I'm on the Cameron Kickett bandwagon, and I have been for a few months now. Someone with his agility and leap is hard to pass on. I see no reason why he couldn't be developed into a key forward.

Kickett would only be a rookie selection though, and the problem is that we only have the two rookie picks. Like was just said, he does have high skin folds but that's why the rookie list would be the perfect spot for him, as there would be little pressure on him and he would be given the time to develop both on and off the ground.

High risk, but potentially even higher reward for whoever picks him.

I'd agree - Clucas and Brown were several degrees worse than Parker - not that most posters on here would remember either Clook or Borownie.

Was Dwayne Simpsn a better player than Brendan Feddema? I think not! Dan Parker actually kicked a couple of hauls of 3 or 4 goals so you could hardly say he was terrible. We have had others much worse:eek:

Feddema was substantially better than both Simpson and D Parker - injuries cut short his AFL career, but he had much better form than either of the other two.

Link please?

What about Gerard Neeshams nephew John Neesham.....picked for his water polo ability I believe!;)

I remember Gerard justifying his drafting of nephew John by saying that when John played junior football for Bullcreek/Leeming he was always runner up to Simon Black in the Fairest & Best awards

^^
Now that is funny! Phil Gilbert?:D I remember watching him play at the WACA. It was like he didn't even want to be there!

old phil, what a shocking AFL player.... cant believe we took him. old gerrard made so many howlers its hard to decide which one was the worst.

on gilbert, i played on him when he was playing for Pinjarra, he rarely looked interested, but gee he could take a mark and kick a goal, he had a field day that game, wouldnt mind throwing a punch either

My main memory of Michael Brown playing is him sliding knees first into a grounded opposition player. That and his goatee, he had the swan districts look down to a tee.

The shittest player I have seen in the purple would have been Stuart Anderson - but mainly cause I had these unfounded high expectations cause he was an ex-premiership player.

Oh, and I would love to see freo give Kickett an opportunity on name alone.
