When he's past his best as a run-with ballwinner will the Cats put him up front where he can damage sides with his aerial and kicking skills? Okay perhaps not a KPP but wouldn't he be a great flanker at least?

Let me future proof this argument - who do you want as a mid size forward in 3 or 4 years time, Ling or Gamble?
Ling's #1 asset is his running & brain followed by his size, hips, marking & goal kicking. He will never be a leading forward, he will never be a pack marking forward, he will never be a crumbing forward. He is a great 1v1 mark, but he has always been against a 'normal' sized midfielder.
He may be able to spend some time as a flanker but only if we need a filler till a better flanker takes his place. I can definitely see him being a run with player into his 30's, and thats a damn long and fine career.
