Wood should be given the opportunity to be the number 1 ruck.

Their raw numbers were very similar in 2011

Wood - 12.5 disposals, 3 marks, 22 HOs per game
Jolly - 11 disposals, 3 marks, 24 HOs per game

Both give away too many free kicks

Jolly has already done what we traded for, in helping us win a flag....he is not the long term answer (will be 30) come rd 1 next year....so he should be used sparingly this year.

Wouldn't mind Jolly playing more of a L.Brown type role, ie more time as a deep forward actually, with short stints in the ruck.

The quickest and best fix would be for Witts to continue his stellar improvement arc and be getting regular starts by the end of the year. A bit of a long shot sure, but a quick fix through the draft is unlikely IMHO all you are going to get is average to ordinary.

Witts will be a monster of a player....but hopefully we have learnt from our mishandling of Josh that you gain nothing from throwing a kid into the ruck.

Let him, and Ceglar who is another promising ruck/forward option, play the year in the VFL, continue to strengthen their frames and get confident in the Collingwood game style.

agreed. I see Jolly and particularly Wood as stopgaps until we can get Witts/Ceglar up to speed. An injury-free Jolly can still help us win a flag and he will help tutor Witts in the black art of ruckwork.

Wood? Trained to kill, born to crochet.
Sorry I know he has his fans but I can't see any future mid to long term upside.

I think Bux has made is overall goal clear over the last couple of years from what little he has said.

Effective disposal which means STOP BOMBING THE PILL LONG TO CONTESTS IN THE 50.

Also he isn't a big fan of the boundary stoppage game plan but he will need to work is way away from that over a period of time.

I should imagine that boundary play will remain important but with the better ball users given license to look - and dispose - inboard to create line breaking plays when those opportunities present themselves.

Re-draft Cameron Cloke?
I assume you are making a joke.
Cameron Cloke was cut by 3 clubs for a reason.

In relation to Wood
For me, with the other two young Rucks waiting for a crack at it I think he really has to show something this year or he may find himself looking for another club

IF jolly is 100% fine wood could be in trouble, witts playing forward and pinch hitting ruck with jolly doing the main work.

If jolly isnt 100% then wood to do majority of ruckwork and jolly pinch hit / stay forward

Wood is the immediate replacement for Jolly and should get game time early in the season.

Witts should be in the AFL team by round 10 if not before in the Leroy role, playing mainly forward with stints in the ruck.

Ceglar is the other option in the same role as Witts.

The way I see it, Wood has 10 rounds to do enough to cement a spot. If Jolly goes down, Wood is first choice as first ruck rather than Witts or Ceglar as they need time to physically mature.

Considering Witts is ALREADY 10kgs heavier than wood... i dunno who needs the more time to "physically mature" :p

Wood could learn a thing or too from witts, and start going at the ball like mumford and not like fraser

People are still panicking over our ruck stocks - it is obvious that the club isn't all that concerned.

Cameron Wood should play 12-16 games this year, and will probably get first crack at the role that Leigh Brown used to play (despite being a different type of ruckman).

I agree - play Wood as much as possible this season to give Jolly a break and have him right come finals time with a in-touch Wood as backup...

So did Leroy, but I feel we have been crucified by the umpires for some bizzare reason. The frees are for inexplicable arm locks and nothing positioning moves.

This might sound like sour grapes because we lost but I also feel that Jolly gets umpired different they were occasions when he was penalised and rightly so but there were other times when you thought wtf was that for.

Jolly I think is umpired in the least constistent manner of any ruckman playing
today, you look at half the times he is penalised and you think to yourself that
could have gone either way.

He certainly does cop the rough end of the pineapple not always fairly imo.:thumbsu:

It's true. I know we complained about St Kilda's rucking in GF1 to the umpiring dept and the next week Leroy got absolutely shafted.

Rarely see any Jolly FA's which I go, woah, that was clumsy. The bloke looks bewildered half the time and no wonder.

Jolly gives frees away because his knees won't let him jump and is instead forced to wrestle and shepherd.
That may be so Timmy but they are still inconstistent with the way they umpire him it takes 2 to tango and they hardly ever take this into account.:thumbsu:

PS hope you don,t mind me calling you Timmy
