Surprisingly hasn't been mentioned yet was just wondering about why Camporeale didn't take his place in the team last Friday? I know it was because of his hamstring, but did he re-do it? Or just taking another precaution? Because he played the whole scratch match game the couple odf days before.

i was wondering the same thing, he was probaly just a late ommission

Hamstring was still a bit tight I think. Is expected to play this weekend though.

It will be good to finally have him back in the side so that we can see what he can do!

I think he'll be short of a yard still. Melbourne are pretty quick when they're on their game so hopefully he's used on a half forward flank as a pinchhitter for some goals....just cant see him getting a permanent run in midfield yet with Pickett looming as a sniper once again. If they'll only bring in Hocking n Jolley to release perhaps Lovett-Murray into a more winger type role...looks more dangerous to have NLM n Lovett on opposite wings with the Johnson boys showing some touch in the middle recently

Thanks mate, good to see a bit of sportsmanship on this board. Good luck to you guys also.:thumbsu:

That's alright mate thanks aswell:)
first carlton supporter on this board that you could reason with!

Ok completely off topic but this has been annoying me for a while...Richmond are one of the big 4 (Melbourne) sides Harps. I think you're mistaking big with top.

Considering both of them have had absolutely crap runs with injury this year, and have barely had a chance to show their wares, don't know how they could be considered 'our worst' ever M29.

Campo, I think still has a bit to offer (if not on the ground, teaching some of our young midfielders about positioning etc). And when fit, Cole will be in our starting 22 (and is still only 22-23).

Typical crap post from you M29.:thumbsd:

Another promising kid- you mean a kid who had already been overlooked at least 6 times by every other club in the comp (including national draft and rookie draft)- a promising kid who would in all likelihood sit on the list for a year or 2 and then be delisted.

Campo was a much better choice thanks and still will be given a reasonable run with injuries. Stick to your own board.

Stick to my own board because I want to express my opinion? I am not trolling, and I am allowed to express my opinions here as long as I am not bagging the EFC, which in this case I clearly am not.

Who gives a rat's clacker whether or not a young kid was overlooked by every club several times? Does this automatically mean that he will not be a good player? I, as well as most football supporters, would say definitely not! Look at your own captain for a great example...

Fair enough, sorry for being a tad touchy at the moment. Am just sick of the uninformed accusing Essendon recruiting older players to top up their list- we only have four players on our list at the moment from other clubs and that includes Adam McPhee, a best and fairest winner at our club.

We have absolutely gone out of our way to pick up kids over the last 3 year and never ever trade away top draft picks for players. We have added more first round draft picks over the last four years than just about any other club- can name names if you want.

As for your second point, yes young players picked up in the PSD can still turn out to be good players, however I'm sure you'll agree the odds are significantly reduced and your point about Hird is not totally valid as he was picked up 14 or so years ago when much less was known about young kids coming through when compared to this day and age of draft camps, endless recruiters etc. It was much more likely then that you would get a good/great player from a lower draft pick because clubs just didn't know about them. Chris Grant is a good example of this at the Bulldogs.

Given the young state of our list (particularly in the midfield area), Campo and Heff were wise choices who cost us nothing other than 2 spaces on our list. Heff has been one of our few shining lights this year and Campo just needs a decent run with injury, as I said before. If not, nothing lost.

PS. Hird is no longer our captain.

no worries mate- I understand. A few years ago, the Blues also went down this path.

I still think that you would be better off drafting a kid. PSD, rookie and even picks later in the draft can work, if the recruiters have done their job correctly. Look at Dean Cox in the rookie draft, Brad Fisher in the National Draft and others in the PSD. Granted, it is marginally less likely to pick up a gem later in the draft, but that is all part of the caper-risks are taken-and sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. If you have a look at the players picked up later vs the players picked up earlier, there is not as big a difference as many would have you think.

Campo is clearly past it as a very good player, and yes, whilst i agree he may give you something at times, if I was in your position, which I wasn't so long ago, I know i would rather pick a kid. Hypothetically, If say Fletcher walked out on the EFC and we had the first pick in the PSD I would not take him. Not a criticizm of him, but I would rather draft and hopefully develop a long term solution to our woes than rely on a very short term option.

And whoops, I sort of forgot about Lloydy being captain :p :p

Fair enough Jeremias, you make some valid points- would love Cox at Essendon. But we'll just have to agree to disagree on Campo (god it's hard to get used to him wearing an Essendon guernsey- couldn't stand him when he played for Carlton!). Anyway, you are obviously a reasonable poster, so fair posting!!

Campo and Heffernan were taken due to the big number of inexperienced players on our list, the young guys did O.K last year but just needed more time to develope at Bendigo, but due to injuries have now become a more important part of the team than we would hope at this stage.
Heffenan has done well so far and Campo just needs to get on the park to provide that extra experience.

I think Campo is really showing he's part of our great club. Only had to watch his reactions as the game hung in the balance...steeely eyed, revving the boys up, shouting instructions at the younger brigade...he's really out to make his mark with us. 50 games from him and Ill be very happy with his recruitment to us.

Hes certainly an asset to our club.
I feel hes copped some unfair criticism and lets face it we didn't recruit him to be another grunt but hopefuly some one who can carry the ball and deliver it.
Thats the part that has let him down except i think the last 2 weeks have shown that side of him is coming back.

Great pickup.

Considering we gave Glenn Manton to Carldumb,i suppose they had to give us Campo.
but
he isnt a terrible player, unlike Manton.

Yeah, Manton was a ******* for us...totally useless. Not sure why he became solid at Carlton.

Cause he was playing behind 2 fairly good players in SOS and Sexton. Only ever picked up the 3rd tall and was really found out when SOS retierd. Pagan didn't think much of him becasue he never played him

More like a lot of unfair criticism. Has got a few injuries and we knew that we were getting a receiver when we drafted him so I not sure why people complained about this. I just got home from overseas so I havent seen last weeks game yet but I heard he played ok, got a few possesions. 35 or somethin.
