What do you think. Both started as taggers, and I have been pretty impressed with Joseph this year.

Is a natural possession winner and accumulated big numbers as a kid. Reckon he might be Nathan Foley MarkII.

Thought the exact same thing when I saw a video of him post draft.

Tough with excellent acceleration and agility. Very excited to see how he develops and whether the club keeps him as a tagger or allow him to play a more attacking role going forward.

Yeah, it'll be hard for him to find another role in such a talented midfield as well.

Not necessarily. Midfield rotations go a lot deeper than 3 or 4 these days. Though he's clearly our best defensively...would love to see him develop into a tagger who can damage the opposition going the other way.

True, but I didn't just mean Murphy, Gibbs and Judd. He'll also be behind Walker, Hadley, Grigg, Carrazzo and if they get their act together Scotland and Stevens. I think as he learns the game over the years he'll naturally get more of the ball and be more attacking, but I much prefer him in the strictly defensive roles and then taking any opportunity that comes his to attack, like his game against Milne.

Wonder if he's big enough to play the sort of role Boyd does (he's been elite for the dogs this year) although there'll always be a spot for such a determined little ****er somewhere in our structure.

It is possible, but I'm just more than happy with him now.
If Joseph can give us what he did this year, every year, I would be a very happy man.

It's not about you being a happy man, Harks. It's about me being a happy man. FMD...

I think the role he is developing is quite unique.

Very few Taggers look equally as happy in the goal square as the centre square.

In fact it usually the main ploy to try and shake the tag. Now all opposition players have up their sleave is to try and outrun him, and out pace him.

I think only Ballantyne and Nahas got slightly the better of him for pace.......and I didn't see anyone "outlast" him or blow him up endurance wise.

He will get better at learning when to peel off and attack, but right now he is filling a vital role and is a unique player.......as someone said.....not the first Boyd, but the first AJ.

I suspect much like Kreuzer last year......this year everyone is talking about how teams need a mobile ruckman (of course crediting Clarke and Ryder for "breaking the mould" :o).......I think in a couple of years everyone will be looking for an AJ type that can play backline, midfield and yes......he even looked O.K. drifting forwards at times.

Off Topic:

We have Garlett and Joseph both listed at 180cm.

Garlett at 74kgs.
Joseph at 76 kgs.

Are my eyes decieving me here?

I think the height's about right, G Ablett's about 182cms and they looked pretty line ball standing next to each other this year. I'd say AJ's probably closer to 80 kgs now though.

My 2 cents says I like him tagging for now, But I'd love to see him burning guys off on a long run ala Lovett sometime in the future.

Joseph has had a stellar year as our primary tagger for the smaller mids and forwards, due to height constraints he won't end up on the bigger players but i think that he is heading down the right path to become a very dangerous weapon for us, a player that can hurt the opposition by minimising a play maker and by creating his own play
