Can AFL 2007 work on backwards-compatible PS3's?

But the fact remains that there are games for the 360 that you simply cannot play on the system without a HDD, I would have thought that not playing an old-gen game on a current/next-gen system is alot better than not playing a current/next-gen game on a current/next-gen system.

You're wrong. Give us some examples please?

Ok, well you can play the 360 games, pretty hard to save the games though, but almost all(If not all) games cannot be played online with without a HDD.

Folks,

Thanks for all your responses. Could have sworn I posted this second question but anyway...has anyone here imported an 80gb PS3, and played AFL 2007 on it? Interested in this combination specifically because it looks like this will be the type of PS2 compatibility we receive in future versions of the console. i.e. through software. Thanks.

backwards compatibility is not essential LLD......you're just using it as a tool for a reason why you think xbox 360 is superior. although in your defense it's a nice little touch for a system to have and ps3 probably should've kept it simply to keep those happy who wanted to get rid of the ps2. (and to quieten up the fanboys a bit)

i mean who the hell has.... as an example 10 xbox games but no original xbox???

i bought my ps3 to play ps3 games..... simply put.

i still have my ps2 to play my ps2 games.

others may not agree with what i just said but an awful lot will.

I do. I traded my xbox 1 in on my 360, but kept a number of titles for nostalgia sake. Still crack them out every now and then.

I have heard that Sony are going to add an update to make 40g PS3's backwards compatible.

a.) any truth to this as far as anyone knows?
b.) is this even possible via a system update?

that is an example of it being handy but not essential...since i'm doubting it was entirely necessary to get rid of the xbox...but obviously convenient saving money and getting rid of it
(still you proved my lil example wrong though)

and also i'm going to doubt they'll have a patch for backwards compatibility on 40 gig ps3's....pretty sure it's something that needs to be inside the console itself....otherwise they'd never have gotton rid of it to cut costs in the first place.....
i could and probably will be proven wrong though..really should research before i post :)

There's a couple of kinds of backwards compatibility in PS3s, hardware and software. I guess they may be able to update software wise, but it's not as reliable/good as including the chip.

Sony said at the time there was no cost benefit to removing bc in PS3s.

that's actually pretty interesting to learn...i didn't realize that

and also there must've been some sort of cost saving by not including the BC chip (regardless of what sony apparently said)

let's just say the chips cost a dollar each to make..... and they sell 2 million consoles.....that's 2 million dollars saved....
while that's peanuts to companies like sony....it's money they could use in other areas such as game development??

but either way i still think sony should offer the different ranges of ps3's as microsoft has done with the 360 with the top end (ps3 elite) offering everything including backwards compatibility etc...

then the ps3 will appeal to all types of gamers from the hardcore (elite which includes EVERYTHING) to the more casual (arcade which is the bare minimum to play the games...store them on smallish hard drive and ability to play online)

PS2 games require the hardware component, PS1 only software.

read somewhere that an afl game is being made for the 360.

strange decision if true

The current LTD Australasian Hardware sales are around

Wii - 456k
360 - 410k
PS3 - 285k

Some HD game developers are quoted as saying that the typical game needs around 400k - 500k sales to break even.

Even taking into account a smaller budget smaller scale game with aussie developers working for peanuts.... it'll be a poor decision to limit yourself to only 1/3 of the market.

Last gen it was alright for it to be a PS2 exclusive because they had 70/80% of the market.

it'll have to be multiplatform imo.......if I was only thinking about money I'd make a Wii/PS2 game on the cheap.
