Power has had a sensational season, and should win the club B&F. However, unlike the club B&F, there are no Brownlow votes given to the 4th and 5th best players on the ground.

I had money on Power, with an each-way bet at 501 for the win, and 126 for a place, on the basis that I thought Power may have been able to catch the umpires' eyes with his consistently good performances, on enough occasions to perhaps snare a place.

However, while Power was pretty much amongst our top 3 or so players in every game, he wasn't necessarily in contention for BoG. He was always going to fight it out for 1 or 2 votes every couple of weeks, with a BoG or two thrown into the mix. Really, the leaders are those who have the potential to be in the mix for 8 to 10 BoG's. That way, if they don't get the 3 votes, they are still a good chance of picking up 2 or 1.

Power probably should have polled more votes than he did (there were a few games where he was definitely in the best three players on the ground, but didn't rate a vote), but it's not surprising that he only scored 5 or so.

Weren't Ash McGrath's 3 votes in round 22 against the Bulldogs where he kicked 6 goals and had a stella game? If so think that explains why he got the 3 votes and Nige didn't!

He didn't poll many votes in the Lionised player award either. That's not to say he didn't have a good year, I think he's been one of our best. It's just one of the failures of the 3-2-1 system that only 3 people can get votes.
