can the rabbits beat the radiers this weekend. if so they evade the wooden spoon.

i dont think the warriors will beat the team they playing which is bulldogs i believe.

I'd say the Rabbitohs won't win because the Raiders have a playoff spot to play for as opposed to the Rabbitohs motivation which is avoiding the wooden spoon.

And the Raiders are at home which should about seal it.

But I wouldn't rule it out as the rabbitohs aren't TOO shabby and the Raiders aren't TOO flash.

Warriors will probably hold the Bulldogs for about half the game and then fold midway through the second half as the Bulldogs score 3 or 4 quick tries.

Rabbitohs once again finishing their season in their normal position on the ladder. How can the league be blackmailed into keeping these worthless saps in the league?

At least other sides move up and down the ladder from season to season.

2004 Last (15)
2003 Last (15)
2002 Last (essentially after Bulldogs dumped below them for salary cap rort)
2001 not in the league
2000 not in the league
1999 6th to last (17)
1998 3rd to last (20)
1997 2nd to last (12)
1996 2nd to last (20)
1995 3rd to last (20)
1994 9th (16)
1993 3rd to last (16)
1992 3rd to last (16)
1991 3rd to last (16)
1990 Last (16)

For christs sakes, if you can't EVER threaten the playoffs even then whats the point?!

The nearest they have got is 4 spots away in 1994. 4 spots out of the playoffs is their best effort in 13 playing seasons. 9 wins, 1 draw and 12 losses being the best they could manage.

I realise that history plays some part in the whole thing and there's the whole legal stuff but is it really good for the game to have perennial easy beats that lower the standard of the league ata time when they really want to step it up a gear?

So the Rabbitohs will get the spoon but...

2004 is an improvement over 2003, as (when you take out the four points from the byes) they've actually EARNED twice as many points this year than they did last year. They've also beaten the reigning premiers and have a promising player in halfback Joe Williams.

Improving and still coming last is a bit slow though isn't it?

At that rate it will take them several years to get near the top 8.

They just never seem to entice any decent players there. It takes about 6 top shelf players and about 10 other very competent ones to be one of the title contenders and the Rabbitohs won't be anywhere near that in the forseeable future.

I'd be shocked if they finish any better than 13th out of 15 next year. If the comp was serious or had promotion relegation then they would be gone long ago.

It's almost like there's pity that constantly flows their way and they get left in the league as some sort of favour to the little kid who always loses but we let him play anyway because he's got nobody to play with.

someones got to come last remember.
everyone forgets that but half the teams wont make it.

i believe the rabbitohs just aint got the calibre of players to be a good team, they slowly recruiting up and nxt year have bought some good players but i still cant see them thretening the top 8 next year either, unless joe williams and new recruits hegs and co really step up and provide the team with some real attacking spark to get them in contention.

Yep for every premiership winner there's a team that 'wins' the wooden spoon, and for every team that wins a game theres one that loses.

My gripe is though that the Rabbitohs always lose most of their games every year for 15 years.

Of course they are going to win a few but they always talk about building the club back up to what it once was etc etc. but that talks been going on for years and they still finished last once again and will probably be close to that again next year.

They seriously need a couple of superstars (not just good players as every team as them) and several other guys who are either on the verge or in the origin team. But they never really have any.

i see what you saying but when it comes down to it 50% of the time a team has to lose.

souths problem is its gonna take time. i believe this year defence hurt em badly, they had points in them but defence was woeful. next year they recruited a few good players but i dont expect them to be big next year. Might even be the spoon for em again. I reckon in general next year might be very competitive and see teams 14th 15th and 16th competing for the top 8 right to the end.

The 50% thing you said was basically what I said wasn't it?

Funny you wrote that last part about the comp being even next year as I just wrote something similar on another thread.

Without a doubt the Warriors will bag a few more wins next year and be in the hunt for the playoffs until the last round if not already secured and I assume that the Rabbitohs may be a little sharper next year. That leaves the Sea Eagles who played some really good games and some god damn awful ones. It's a question of whether they can tighten up their defence a bit and sneak another win or two. Teams tipped to struggle a little I noticed were the Sharks and the Knights.

Hopefully the top sides drop a few more games against the chasing pack so we don't end up with three groups (Roosters, Bulldogs, Broncos, Panthers) followed by (everybody) followed by (Sea Eagles until the last game, Warriors and Rabbitohs).

If that all happens then it'll be tighter than a ....................... (insert dirty expression there).
