Interresting chat the other night about acouple of lads who may get drafted or rookie listings told that they have been spoken to by two clubs
Funny thing but.
Im told didnt get draft camp invite or screening invite is this or can this be possible ??

I understand there are limited numbers at draft camp. Only players who have 5 (at least) club recommendations get an invite to the camp. So if "2 clubs" have spoken to them, they may well be in the mix but not rated highly by enough clubs to warrant an invitation.
Rookie listing sounds quite possible.
Just out of interest, who were they?

The other thing is.... if a club likes a kid but knows not many other clubs know of him, why put his name down for the draft camp and bring their attention to him. Keep him for a late smoky, if it works great if it doesn't nothing lost.

OK after asking around abit find that the clubs spoke to them and sent letters (around state carnival time ) but have not heard from them since. That is some time ago. For me that means not much so if they havnt been spoken to since it would be pretty hard to be drafted or rookie listed wouldnt you think.

the only blokes from sandy dragons who went to state screenings that have a chance to get drafted or rookied are andrew mcguiness and dan anthony.

For starters from what I see was wrote said not going to draft camp and screenings And not a thing to do with sandy and it also said not who was you dum aholes (read things)

Sounds like a bit of beating of the own drum

simon & oldman jonny mac again

doubt that. buckley should be a good chance. has shown 'late development' which clubs should recognise, as his second half of the year form has been very good. also, played for the vics in the recent allies match and was named best on. seems to only be getting better and better.

His type can appeal to AFL clubs, certainly the athleticism and mobility appeal as does his long penetrating kicking but he does play an outside game which is quite noticeable so I wonder how that will impact on his chances.

obviously im a noob, and i dont even know alot about the game, but i come from the same area as alot of sandy/oakleigh players and hear a few rumours. clearly, footyman is the guru of this site, and in your opinion f/m, what do u think are the chances of phillips, buckley, ainger, iecci, thomas(matt) and rees thomas being drafted. do u think that these boys are a chance in the draft or rookie??

Matt Thomas yeah he should be right, very good work ethic and a leader thats a good start. Can play as well. Metro player, very nice size.

Ainger didn't get many games in at the Chargers, I was never really impressed with him, but he's got height and can play either end. Gone to draft camp so he'd have to be a fair chance. Late draft pick/rookie.

Buckley I wrote about earlier and also just in another thread tonight. In my view he's a rookie type.

Rees Thomas dropped off a bit, not a great carnival and got shown up for lack of speed a few times in games. Would like to see him get a go cos he's got a terrific work rate, presents all day long but needs to add some strength and improve the kicking if he is drafted. Might be more likely rookie listed than drafted.

Simon Philips no thanks. Iezzi the same. Probably to the VFL.

I agree with you on Rees Thomas, Iezzi and Mat Thomas, but I think Ainger will play and will get picked up before the rookie draft, Buckley has no chance IMO.

And what is wrong with Simon Phillips I think he can play, yes he is quite short but similar players have made it at AFL level, anything besides his height put u off him?

I think he means they had a 'private screening', one of my mates had a a private screenign with 4 or 5 other blokes with the collingwood footy club about 3 weeks ago, basically the 6 of them were battling for a rookie position from what i gather.

Intelligence personified!
You may need to explain the meaning of "personified" to him.
On second thought, you may need to do the same with "intelligence".
