Love Cotch as captain, and perhaps it was time for a change going into a new era, but huge shoes to fill in Newy. From a leadership point of view he was th best going around. I really hope Newy has a big playing year and the players get behind him as the spiritual leader. Really pissed about the Port send off - not good enough!

yep so true. they're plenty of players who do well in the media jack,morris included. either way it shouldnt be used as the only thing that defines leadership.
It shouldn't be the sole reason why someone should be the captain , but it is a significant factor in being captain . Club captain's are interviewed generally more than any other player and they need to be competent and able to promote the club well with those interviews .

I think we all agree that cotchin does promote the club well in his short time with us.
and imo both lids and cotch do a fine job. maybe you have a different view.

This is actually something Cotchin till now has avoided though. Outside his appearances on Gameday with Rompingwins, he appeared to me to do much less media than Reiwoldt/Lids, and even King/Jackson.
Cotchin even conceded this in his SEN interview, nominating the inability to retain a private life as one of his challenges of captaincy. Said he likes to be able to walk away and have time to himself, but acknowledged as capt and the face of the club he would now be expected to up the media and corporate appearances considerably.
Fair call too. I think people underestimate how much the media grind wears some down. Reiwoldt seems to love it, while its obvious Martin would rather be digging sewer ditches that fronting the cameras for interviews.

Disagree. It's a bonus as they have to front for interviews but I would rather our captain be too shy to string two words together in front of the camera and be Carey/Brown/Cousins behind closed doors than be a media darling but only be average away from the camera
You might but the majority of sponsors and members want to see the clubs captain in the media and performing well .
So if Cotchin didn't speak well to the media, I'm assuming you'd want Jackson as Captain?

Even the black on the St Kilda jumpers is pure black.
Our jumpers would look so much better in my opinion.
If you have a look at the photo of Cotchin (Bottom photo) you can see even the shorts are a different colour.

Yeah the shorts are different coz they're a different material.
IMO they should use the same material for both. KooGa player issue jumpers use a material which soaks up sweat and keeps the players cool at the same time apparently.
