Captaincy 2020 -

I didn't see a pressing need for changing the Captain.

Easton Wood has been a good captain and his leadership role in 2016 has been too readily discounted in the recent media driven push for change.

I see a substantial risk in saddling the Bont with the additional responsibilities that come with being captain, and would have preferred to let him focus on being the best he can be for a while, before taking on the burden.

I hope that Woody wanted to step down for some reason other than the building clamour of support for giving it to the Bont.

Really happy about this outcome all round.

This year is shaping up as a fantastic opportunity for Easton. For a while now he has carried the burdens of captaincy whilst also playing above his weight as a third tall defender.

With Keaths arrival and Lewy Young doing so well late last year, we should see Easton play more as a pure interceptor/rebounder whilst simultaneously being freed of his captaincy responsibilities.

He's fulfilled his captaincy obligationss with great honour and results, would be amazing to see him return to 2015 form.

Can't believe some are worried about Bonts dealing with the captaincy role. If there was a young man clearly equipped to thrive under the responsibility, it's him.

It's time to consign the great Bevo/Murphy/Wood era as a glorious chapter of our history.

It's now the Bevo/Bont era, hopefully an era of even greater sustained success.

Bit worried that Macrae isnt in the leadership group.

I'm not sure what the issue is internally, but he does not get the recognition he richly deserves.
He’s a great player but not all great players are great leaders. Macrae to me in the few times I’ve been around him seems to be a very quiet achiever. The less attention the better. Relatively shy.

It's difficult to drop your captain. Easton has had some bad runs of form in the past, not least when the "forward" experiment failed.

We now have a very competitive backline and I find it difficult to pick our best backline from what we have on the table. Duryea and Crozier have been outstanding and with Trengove battling for his place, the addition of Keath, players are going to have to shape up.

I'd love Woody to return to his 2015-16 form. He would then be a lock.

The last time we had a Captain chosen by the Coach was Murphy. That worked out alright.
He volunteered and the players voted. Remember young Seb casting his vote? It was a unique situation.

Only sensible decision to make

Wood has been great but Bont is the man to lead us going forward

The right decision. Easton may be struggling to get a game next year and I have not seen a better young leader than Bont since JFK

You know what happen to JFK but Toby Greene has already tried to assassinate him and we will be ready next time.

Congrats to Bont. Always knew he would be captain someday, but not this soon. I just hope he's ready, cause he only just turned 24 a little over a couple weeks ago.

I think Joel Selwood was made captain at 23, iirc. He is pretty hardnose though, hope Bont can be. No more Mr. Nice Guy 😉.

True. Although Geelong's list had quite a few older and experienced guys at that time, so Bont won't have as many older guys he can lean on. Hopefully he'll be fine though.

Voss and Carey were both made captain around 20/21 from memory. It may be early, but wouldn't say it's too out of the ordinary

In 2015 in Bob’s first year as captain I was calling for Easton to succeed him, which thankfully he did.

He has been wonderful and he’ll forever be a legendary premiership captain. We’ve had some great captains in our club and Easton is right up there amonst the best, and not just because of the premiership.

Bonti has had captaincy written all over him since his first game. He already has captained the club before in the absence of Bob and/or Easton and done it excellently and he’ll no doubt thrive in the role.

I also think that standing down may be beneficial to Easton as he reaches the twilight of his career.
