Who here likes card games?

I, myself, aren't much of a fan apart from the occassional drunken poker match with mates, cards does nothing for me. But, one thing I've encountered since coming to Korea and hanging out with North Americans on the weekends is how big cards seems to be amongst Americans and Canadians, I guess one reason could be the weather, it's something to do when it's a blizzard outside.

The only card games I ever played back in Oz was with a couple of mates after half a dozen or so, so I can't never remember what game's what and how to play. So, since being here, and trying to participate in games, I quickly feel like a goose as I can't remember the rules and generally suck at cards anyway.

Is Australia keen on cards and I just hung around with the wrong mates back in Oz, or does card games truly suck and no one back home plays?

theyre ok.

the best one ive played was when i was camping, its called kings and involves the cards in the middle and u take turns at taking one and if you get a king you have to pour 1/4 of your drink into the cup in the middle and whoever gets the last king has to drink the then full cup, its a ****er when theres a variety of drinks in the cup like vokda, beer, and bourbon!!
and obviously there are other rules for each other cards, such as making up rules which go for the duration of the game (like no elbows on the arm rests of the chairs, or whenever you speak you must put on a funny accent) and each time u break a rule (and get caught) u have to drink some of ur grog.

its basically a fun way 2 get pist :)

When boredom finds you in the middle of some little town that you don't want to be in, as I did on the holidays, card games can be a great form of amusement, managed to play Uno with my sister and her friend for 4 hours straight one night.. :o

I havent played much lately but I used to play quite a bit.

Blackjack, Poker, Hearts, Crib and 500 would be my trademark games.

Any other insomniacs out there get to see Late Night Poker on SBS? Quality :p

500 is a great game to play, provided you play with a half decent partner who knows what they're doing. :D

I don't mind playing Hearts, May I? or Canasta when I go around to Mum & Dad's place. Cribbage is ok as well. One of the first games I learnt how to play when I was younger was Euchre.

Rummy. Known as gin rummy to others, and we often play to 1000, rather than just to 500.

Grew up on it, with my dad and grandmother, among others, and it was a great way to kill an afternoon or evening with family.

Now I've taught it to Jen, and she can beat me on ocassion. Just wait til Dad comes out here, one of these days, I keep telling her... :D

Card games were good until the internet came along. It seems to have been a late 80's thing or early 90's etc. My farourite was Euchre or whatever other name it's called. Couldn't play poker to save meself!

Canasta on the internet is good. 500 is a great game as well.

Any Yahoo canasta players here?

Scopa!! We have the best looking cards.

Easily the world's best card game is Contract Bridge.

Easy to play, incredibly difficult to play well.

There are millions of Bridge players the world over, of all ages. Contrary to popular (or should I say, populist belief), you don't have to be a geriatric to enjoy the game.

Similar in principle to 500 but provides a lot more scope for apllication of logic, creative thinking and skill rather than luck.

My Grandma and I used to play that game when I was a kid, she taught me how to play and then I taught myself to remember which cards had been thrown out already. :D

Card games in my family are a big thing, just because I have a very large extended family and game playing is one thing we do when we all get together. Like anything else, it is always more fun when you have 12 people playing as opposed to 2 or 3 I guess.

Liverpool Rummy and contract bridge are our games of choice, although none of us are very good at bridge.

That would seem like the hardest part of the game, but it does get easier as it goes along.

I always sting Jen on cards that are already on the table... I can always count on about 20-25 points a game, at least, in that manner. :D

Same here, as per my memories as a growing boy.

More people playing means fewer cards in your hand to start with, and that's the element that makes it more fun, and more challenging.

One of my favourite memories off the top of my head, involving extended family (and this might be one of those "you had to be there" moments) is that one of my dad's distant uncles was getting his butt kicked at rummy one night, so he went out to his Winnebago to get more chips after he ran out of what my aunt had already provided. :D

Late-night Poker is gold! Always good fun to watch when you come home after a big night out.

Kings is a great game to play, especially when it gets down to the last few cards, the tension is terrible. We have rules like question master, which means if you ask a question and they answer you have to drink.

A*sehole was very popular on the bus when I did a Contiki tour, easy to understand, but some good tactics involved.

isnt it good wen u have a 'toilet pass' which you conveniently use near the end and dont return until after someone has gotten the last king! haha

i remember the first time i ever played i got the goddam last king!! :p
