A little surprised that Scotty is currently in our ten (approx.) highest paid players.

Not that he wasn't fantastic last year, but for a guy his age, on a 1 year deal, didn't think he'd be on that much.

One year deal would likely be a lucrative one. That would probably be why he agreed to just the single year.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if JR made a move after the 2012 season, particularly if he again struggles to re-capture his 2010 form. He could quite easily go back to Adelaide, or even move to one of the new clubs.

Thornton has managed to salvage his career, and has turned into a real swingman. I'd like to think that Carlton will try and hold onto him past this season.

I'd be shocked if Russell left. Especially after the club and Ratten ignored the calls of the great unwashed to get rid of him. JR is one of those players who does everything right and becomes part of the furniture at football clubs. As an outsider, Russell seems to be a popular figure around the club and pretty close with Murphy and Gibbs. Is in the leadership group for this reason.

Maybe it's just me, but I've lost interest in Goddard.
Just get the impression that he is winding down rather than gearing up.
I may be wrong, but I'd sooner Deledio or the even more unlikely Mitchell.

I heard he followed Carlton as a kid though...:D

Seriously, of those three would take Deledio in a heartbeat. Already made himself into an excellent player, would be an absolute gun in a better side.

IMO if Scotland and Thornton want to play on than we should do everything we can to make sure its in navy blue. It shows poor form when a player who has done everything for the jumper finish there careers at another club. I don't want to see Russell go either.

There are some interesting name who are up for free agency this year. I was originally against us trying to get a player or two with free agency but if our year doesnt go well then maybe we could fill a hole and pinch a flag while our younger star develop. There are five player I would look at

1. J brown- if Waite can't get throw the year without getting injured and if our rucks and Rowe don't stand up and to give Casboult and Mitchell more time to develop.

2. & 3. S fisher or t chaplin- if Henderson doesn't play as well as last year and if bower still has injury problems just to give watson and McCarthy more time.

4. & 5. B Sewell or S tuck- if McLean can't stay in the seniors and if ellard or curnow dont do well

there are a number issues at play here depending on what you see your life after a playing footballer is.If your going back into normal civilian life you may take the money and run, but if you want to get into media you would except unders for a contract extension because the loyalty as a club player will add value to your brand later on. This is especially the case if you play for a "big four club". the exception here is if your a bona fide star.
