Think Motley talked him into coming over together, so had to let that go.

Weren't they at different clubs? Braddles a year older too. Were they mates prior to coming over?

I thought MLG was better than I have previously seen him. He at least has his finger on the pulse of what is going on at the club. Stumbled over his words a couple of times, got pushed into a corner on the PP but stayed calm. Liked the way he fought back against DerWayne's cheap shot.

He reminded me of a staunch opening bat whose job was to take the shine of the ball. Yea he gave us a little glimpse in how he really wanted to answer all his questions.

The Prez gives and interview and the vultures immediately turn on him. That is why the club employs footy managers, they do all of the talking. Presidents give the vultures a free kick i.e. Jeff Kennett & Eddie everywhere. Just shut up and let the process take its course. Extremely stupid decision to allow SOS to give an interview, and I suspect he was forced to do it. He was clearly set up by Caroline Wilson, and was pushing her own agenda. Trigg was sacked for whatever reason(s), but Caro, as usual, is trying to make a story out of nothing. The guy was given a second chance after making a huge stuff up, but would not move to Victoria. You have to question someone's commitment when you are asking kids to move Interstate but the CEO will not make the move.
Let the people who are paid to speak to the media, do the talking.
The net effect of these recent interviews has been very positive. I don't understand your position.

It has seemed to me that the club believes 3AW and The Age are displaying a strong "anti-Carlton" bias and will never give any Carlton "guest" a fair go.

Consequently the Blues have made themselves more available to other media outlets.

I think the last 60 hours shows exactly why.

PS - spent some time talking to a Tiger mate of mine last night. He strongly believes that recruiting Rhys Palmer is a perfect example of why Carlton is in the trouble it is. Which just shows me that most non Blues fans have zero understanding of the problem and what the club has done and why.

The media's job is to report. From there, they can analyse and comment.

Sure, it pays to treat your sources and interviewees with respect and warmth as a starting point, but their job is not to promote the game.

5 extra coaches and 2 staff tied to player recruitment is great, but we need to re-engineer what we're doing in regards to high performance management.
It would take a while reap the benefits of the increased spend. I am glad we started now.

We’re the only football club that had 3 board members under federal indictment at the same time on separate investigations.
We're still the only football club to bring down a government, and a federal one at that.

Anyone able to tell me what DerWayne said to the Pres?
Yeah basically tried to turn what MLG said into a backhanded comment about 2019 being a write-off, and when MLG challenged it by saying the year hasn't even started so labelling it a write-off is inappropriate, Der-wayne doubled down and asked if the Blues were going to play finals and pushed that point. Basically acted like a turd to the President of our club during the closing of the interview with music playing over the top and all.

That next year was a write off
Thanks.

Did he give reasons or just bring his usual flippant self?

If he had reasons then probably fair enough, it is his opinion. If he was being a smart arse then he can GAGF.

Needs to be some consequences for the media people who are unwilling to understand their subject matter, before unloading their thought bubbles on the unsuspecting public.

I think Derwayne made an error saying 2019 was a right off - meaning 2018...but then he decided to suggest that not making finals is the definition of a right off...it all happened as the interview was being wound down by production staff ( hence the music being played) - wouldn't be surprised if Gerard Healey signaled for the interview to be ended - and Derwayne just couldn't help himself - that bloke has a serious issue of hatred for Carlton - shoudl be called on it - because his Fox Commentary is abysmal whenever Carlton play - every comment is a smart arse kick at the Club or its players.

It was a backhander, it was once MLo virtually signed off, end of interview. Really poor form.

No manners, hope the Pres kept his cool.

Would play clips of both that and the crap SOS put up with to the playing group to show them the consequences of poor performances on the rest of the club. Reiterate we are behind them and understand where we are at with the rebuild and that we are backing them in to turn it around.

Need to get the entire club understanding the impact of what they do on each other. Get marketing and admin staff in on it as well, they are all probably copping it daily, all need to show the players we can take it as we can see they are making progress and we can’t wait for the tide to turn.

I am thinking there is more to this than meets the eye. Was Dwayne Russell rejected by Carlton as a player back in day or something ? Maybe he was hoping he could be seen in the light of the Klomp, Maylin, Braddles, Mots, Sticks and Naley types from SA in his playing days and felt not wanted and being at Geelong he felt envy all those years?

Doubt it.

Played for Port then Geelong.

Yeah, I know whom he played for but his weird attitude make me wonder when he was a SANFL player maybe he had dreams of getting to play with other stars at Carlton and be *wanted* like the guys we got to Carlton from SA but if we never showed any interest maybe there is some resentment there. Maybe he tried to get us interested back then but we had no interest in him at all. I got no idea, totally speculation but his weird unexpected reactions make me wonder.

Took her a day for her brain to kick into gear, no one could see the year ahead unless you saw the injuries. She was angry, what for 12 months, seriously, grow up lady.
An incredible amount wrong with that.

- they again link Carlton playing on Friday nights with the ratings, despite Carlton games on average rating fairly well.
- they dispute the concept that we knew our third year would be our worst, when once we traded Gibbs we knew we would certainly be at our most vulnerable. If the plan was always to trade players out, and this season was always going to be the point in which the senior player quota was at its lowest, then absolutely we always bloody knew this year would be the worst.
- Caro still disputes the meaning of the word henchman, despite it being well known as a pejorative term.
- she again disputes SOS's characterisation as to her and the rest of the media having an agenda by saying that, when your club is in this sort of situation and you can answer for it, you should front up. Well, Caroline, I don't see how or why they should, given your indifference to fact and your desire to spin everything stated into a negative version.
- Finally, she states that MLG cannot be interviewed on the subject of Trigg, simply because he refuses to do so by her. You're not entitled to anything, Caroline, and your attitude towards people you've thrown under the bus is utterly repellent.

I don't mind Caroline Wilson, as she serves a vital role in the AFL media. What I do mind is what she does when there isn't a story to chase, or an actual scandal to unearth. Her articles on Trigg were a great example of how the media can twist innuendo into something significant without a great deal of substance, and the only thing I don't understand about it is why it took us this long to fire back.

Mongrel is required and there is plenty of incentive for players to understand the need to stick tackles and match their opponent. Carlton has been defined by 'class'y outside players in recent years - not by the blue collar hard nuts that won flags.

Carlton for one reason or another have never invested in serious midfield inside grunt- mongrel - abused Judd for years with lack of cover and now are doing same with Cripps - good signs from Kennedy and Dow coming through though and Fisher will go another level again if he has a decent preseason - jury is out on SPS now though he hers footsteps too often serious issue with him in my books- not really a 'buyer' of hasn't had a preseason - lack of 100% fitness doesn't make a player do half steps most of the time around the ball -and that is what he does too often - if he wants to play an outside role - he better pick up some leg speed quick smart -because fast he aint. SPS gets another half year to show something before I put a redline through his name- but he isnt playing like a pick #6 midfielder - Fisher and Dow have gone past him way past him.

Up front I think Harry /Charlie /Pickett are all ok on the mongrel stakes - all competitive player types...Levi is seriously soft for a player his size- just like Rowey is down back - very disappointing and wouldn't get a run in a JaB mongrel side - or would get 'special' coaching and KPI targets to work on. Rowey should never have copped a punch to his face by the Melbum player unanswered - was perfectly in his rights to smash the prick - would have cheered a 4 week suspension if he did..

the difference between Richmond being middling and winning a flag boiled down to the whole side achieving a level of physical development and physical competitiveness - they mongrelled up and got a flag for it - and are in my books still the hot favourites to win another if they stay fit. Look at the way they play across the lines - very aggressive and confident football - not especially highly skilled either - just hard at it- good on 'em.

He's just one of a handful of Carlton haters from years ago.
